Car accidents are terrifying and difficult to recover from, how are you going with your physical recovery? I know the mental recovery feels like a bigger hurdle at times.
I was in a 5 car collision 3 years ago, was the front vehicle and treated for whiplash in my neck and shoulders, along with my lower back in conjunction with the pre-existing arthritis. I drive a manual and the shock of the impact radiated through my wrists and left ankle due to the pressure on the clutch.
I can remember a lot about the accident but it wasn't my first trauma.
It is not uncommon to have memory difficulties after a traumatic event, it's just your mind trying to protect you from the extreme nature of what occurred.
Is it bugging you that you can't remember?
I had a very traumatic childhood and upbringing that I couldn't remember anything from my childhood, I had all these habits and protective mechanisms but I had no idea why. I had this massive blank up until my 20's that I used to get angry that I couldn't remember. I wanted to remember.
Then one day I did, just an aisle in the supermarket and an image that turned into a memory that turned into a flashback and nightmares and seizures.
I don't know how much a brain can erase trauma as much as it can lock it away, but I do know that it doesn't always stay that way.
