Wife coming home from hospital early - feeling anxious

Wife coming home from hospital early - feeling anxious

I'm not actually looking for any feedback here just needing to unload some of my thoughts around this as there is no one I can talk to who could begin to understand. And please, I do not want to come across as negative about my wife, I am just trying to get myself in the right frame of mind so that I can not be too reactive and be able to best support my darling in the transition

My wife has been in hospital (private hospital mental health unit) for 2 weeks now following admission for suicidal thoughts / behaviour. At her last meeting with the admitting dr she is determined that she will be coming home next Tuesday. I thought she would be there at least another week. I should be excited right??? for some reason however this is making me anxious.

Firstly I thought that it was subject to review next Tuesday but my darling is only hearing what she wants to and is determined to come home regardless and has told the children she will be home also even though I asked her not to...
so what happens now if the doc does not want to discharge her on Tuesday ??? not only do I have to deal with my darlings potential meltdown (I saw the state she was in when denied a weekend pass) but also our children. They will be devastated. one in particular is already off me for 'sending mummy away' and 'letting the dr do experiments on her' (don't know where that one came from?) they miss her so much and want her home, I am just a little annoyed that she has put me in this position. she does not have to deal with the fall out if things don't go to plan 😞

Then when she does come home I am worried about the transition. This has not gone well in the past and she is already getting excited about how well I have packed away the washing and is it in the correct colour order and facing left not right or whatever 😞 why haven't I mowed the grass (seriously, when have I had the time to do that whit everything else that is going on.

Further to this I have plans for Wednesday and if things go pear shaped on Tuesday it will be another instance where I have to opt out of doing something for myself in order to keep my darling happy/ safe. (is it selfish to think like this?)
At the very least put being discharged off till Thursday, but she is not interested in hearing that.

I was hoping to see the dr while visiting today to discuss my concerns but he didn't show up so now hanging out for Monday. I want more than anything to have my darling home but at the right time and in the right mind space.
I have explained to my darling my concerns but she thinks she is fine and I overacted in having her admitted in the first place. Just really hoping things go well and frantically trying to get the house in order. (Housework has been lacking as I have been wasted driving 3 hours a day to visit her with our baby).

I love my wife and sooooo much want her home but want it to go well also. I just wish it did not bother me so much that she is coming home early 😞

Will let you all know how it all goes. Thank you for listening.

Hi @Former-Member @Shaz51

How are you both and your hubbies today? Trust all is well.

Didn't get my assignment finished yesterday 😞 still trying to get it done by Fridays due date but unlikely.
Met with the lecturer yesterday and he was happy with my progress and has grated me a 2 week extension. He is very understanding of my situation as he has seen the worst of what MI has to offer within his own family.

Yesterday morning my darling was (of her own accord) thinking about delaying her hospital admission by 1 week to take some pressure off me but by the afternoon she was so anxious about how she would cope having to wait that long I told her it was not an option. She goes in tomorrow after lunch.

Hi @Former-Member @Shaz51

S2 ok tonight. Spent the day with me at work. Wanted to see his teachers this afternoon to say sorry for yesterday so took him to school this afternoon.

Meeting with the principal on Monday.

I am just really disappointed and hurt that the teacher that caused all of the problems is someone who I had confided in re our situation and thought i could count on to look out for him. Turns out I was wrong. Bitch!!, (can I say that here?) Also supposed to be a friend of my darlings... some friend.

Darling ok I think, hard to say.

Hi @Determined (and @Former-Member). I've been keeping my head out of a lot of the discussions lately because I've felt like there's too much in my own little corner, but spotted last night's chat in Hot Chocolate, so backtracked to find out what's being going on with you.

We've been through some similar stuff with our daughter, so I can relate to a lot of it. She had a three-plus week admission in a private clinic about a two hour trip away, but cut it short at about two weeks. Presently, she's trying to find somewhere that will admit her to trial an antidepressant medication, but the clinic from last time won't accept her. Not sure why. She reacted badly to the medication last time ( a few years ago), so none of us (including her) want her at home when she tries it again. She'll need 24/7 supervision. She shares a house with her older brother, but he can't provide that kind of constant oversight. As is, he's pushing dangerously close to his coping threshold.

On top of that, I've had stretches when I've needed to be away to sort out my parent's home and visit them, and they're a four hour trip away. It's been hard sometimes when my family's been stressed out over a recent crisis situation with our daughter, then on top of that I've been absent. Hubby's good at supporting the family, and ours are a bit older than yours. We've been able to conect our youngest (12) with psychological support through Headspace. She can arrange to see their doctor or psych through her school's student welfare centre. I think your kids are too young for Headspace, but is there another kids' support service that can work with them through their school? If (big "if" ) teachers can be supportive it helps, but teachers are not qualified psychologists, and sometimes can be a bit out of their depth in a complex situation.

Hoping you can find some good rainy day stuff to do with your family today. I know one thing I find sad is that we've been so busy and tired from dealing with full on MI issues that a lot of normal family fun has gone by the wayside. If you get a chance, maybe build up a few "good memory times" with your kids. Nothing fancy; the simple, goofy-fun times can mean a lot.

Re: Wife coming home from hospital early - feeling anxious

Thanks @Smc, feel for you at the moment. Trust your daughter can find the care she needs. It must be hard having to go away at times like this 😞 at least we only have bit over an hour to travel to see our darng where she is.

School has a chappy who will be working with s2 but I do need to find a psychologist for him. He has seen one previously but stopped after the inital 6 visits. While he liked her im not sure it was going anywhere, problem is there are few options where we are, it is all about an hour away for any decent psyc service and the constant travel gets a bit much.

Boys have just watched 3 starwars episodes back to back, about to make them some lunch and we will head of yo go visit mummy 😊 she is looking forward to the visit.

Ta. Yes, sometimes it can be gut wrenching trying to decide which of our family needs me around the most.
Star Wars sounds like an excellent rainy day solution. Enjoy your visit. 🙂

Day finished up ok @Former-Member

Darling seemed ok this afternoon, very tired but that was to be expected. It was really hard to leave this afternoon and feeling down again tonight 😞

Children ard tearing the place apart at the moment, better go and sort it out. Get dressed and go to bed seems to be more complicated than it needs to be at the moment. Ill be back later.
