National Sorry Day
Sorry Day is today and is the 26th of May every year in Australia. It’s a day to remember and reflect on the pain and hurt caused to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people especially the Stolen Generation. The Stolen Generations were Aboriginal children who were taken away from their families by the government and church. My own family are a part of this. 🖤
Most never saw family again they were disconnected from family, culture and community
Sorry Day means a lot to me and my community It’s not just about saying sorry it’s about recognising the truth of what happened, respecting our Elders and continuing to heal. Saying sorry doesnt fix it all , but it is a step toward reconciliation and justice.
On this day we remember those who were taken and those who are still healing, including family members who are suffering from trauma passed down as a result and we hope for a future where our culture and people are respected and heard
