Something’s not right

My life sucks

My life sucks

And I have no hope that it’ll get better, despite being told by everyone that spoken to that it would. But I know for a fact that it won’t, not even in decades time.

@Jynx @Appleblossom @rav3n @Former-Member

theres one specific issue that I lowkey wish I could or wanna keep talk about, but at the same time it drains my energy if I keep talking about it especially when it’s during the days/times where I don’t even think or worry about that situation/issue. Its that one issue that I wish I could control my mum with that she continues to have views on that she has applied onto me.😕 that’s why I don’t consider to have the best relationship with her because due to our upbringings in different countries, we tend to have lots of differing opinions on things… 😐 I sometimes wish she could stop trying to keep getting in touch with me like she does on a weekly basis now that we don’t even live together lol. Moreso, I really wish i can know if a lot of gen z Cambodians (my heritage) share the same views as other gen z’s around the world about choosing not to have kids for whatever reasons. The family foundation culture over there I think that type of thing needs to GO!!!

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud Damn, I'm sorry you're going through that, it's always hard when family can't accept your decisions, opinions or boundaries, especially when it's a parent. My ex had a similar issue with her mother, calling numerous times a day. wanting to know everything and having an opinion on everything, I won't go into the belittling, arguing and non stop criticism. I never did know the full extent as my ex wasn't willing to teach me her native language, but I learnt some basics and could understand a bit when they were talking in front of me. I'm not sure what to recommend, screening calls? advising your mum that you're only available during certain times due to work / study commitments. My first thought was having a heart to heart with your mum, but I assume that isn't an option as your mum is very protective of you and may think she is still in charge of you and your life (I hope that's not the case though), I know my ex-wife sees our kids as her property, where I saw our children as though they weren't my property, but I was responsible for their care and to bring them up as decent human beings, until they were of an age where they could look after themselves.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you can find a solution or happy medium

Re: My life sucks

@Former-Member my mum texts me weekly and nowadays sends me some videos of puppies since she knows how much i love puppies. but yeah idk considering how my relationship with her is, i just wish she can just let me be and just not bother me that much, even if that meant to send me things that she knows makes me happy and asking me if i wanna go out shopping with her on a fortnightly basis. but yeah normally i do respond back to her whenever she asks me questions. its a good thing she doesnt text me everyday though, but yeah idk. the problem is that whenever i complain to her about things, she usually ends up invalidating my feelings because she doesnt even understand - well i feel like she does 'get it' but she doesnt wanna acknowledge or accept it. that's the frustrating thing. i just wish she can only just get in contact (including texting) with me just sometimes/ocassionally instead of always.

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud in my experience, we can't control others, their opinions of us, or their values and beliefs about the world. All we can do is decide what we're willing to tolerate. If you are wanting your mum to contact you less, let her know that.

Then if she keeps sending texts, you only respond as much as you already told her you were comfy with.

Boundary-setting with parents is often the hardest of all hun, but the community is here to help you through it 😊

Re: My life sucks

@Jynx @There’s quite many times these days where I have to keep sending her replies that include the 😡 emoji on it usually cause I’m annoyed when she keeps talking to me, depending on what it is I guess - but in most cases, I just do that just because.

I wish I can control her views of how she wants me to be in a relationship in my 20s (the way she views how she thinks people should be in a relationship in their 20s…..). I was able to tell her last time to leave me alone and to stop trying to get me to be with a Cambodian immigrant guy and her response to that was “ok, no worries”….and I also told her that being in a relationship in your 20s is too young and early and that a lot of people these days get into a relationship when they’re in their 30s at least…she said “ok” to that as well. But that “ok” is usually (or sometimes ) not a guarantee that she’ll listen to what I say…
