Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

Re: Not Good Enough

Hi All

Sorry just got home (at 7.30pm AEST) Got home - house flooded due to leaking roof - did not this problem before.

Thank you for responses which I will read later.

I've got to be at work in less than 12 hours - need to address flooding. Further heavy rain forecast for tonight - need to limit further flooding tonight and tomorrow while at work.

@tyme I didn't expect my post to attract so much chat on the forums

Re: Not Good Enough

Apart from mopping up @Till23 I hope you can get a tarp on the roof asap - maybe SES can assist

Re: Not Good Enough

Oh dear @Till23 , hope your roof gets sorted! Certainly not cheap.

Out of curiosity (no pressure to answer), do you think hormonal changes have something to do with how you are feeling?

I know for me, hormones playa big part with my mental health fluctuating.

You mean a lot to us, and I can see the community really want to rally around you.

Re: Not Good Enough

Thanks @Dimity I think it seems worse than it is because I've been away for 2 days, I've got buckets in places now.

Sorry you are not feeling well either

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 roof leaking is a big headache.

Take care of you and the house.

Wish I could come and help

Re: Not Good Enough

Hi @tyme I have none of those hormones due to my age and I have had cancer so I am on tablets that completely suppress them. The cycles go for many months it's variable. It is the nature of cPTSD that it fluctuates, because you never know if or when something is going to trigger one or more of your negative core beliefs.

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 I didn't realise c-ptsd can be cyclical. But I guess it does come in waves. I guess it might exacerbate my bipolar depression... or explain some of it better.

Re: Not Good Enough

I know you are off shift shortly @tyme

I'm really tired from big weekend of activity. Hopefully I can get to sleep ok.
