Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

Re: Not Good Enough

Oh @Dimity how long have you had Tiger for did he come to you with 3 legs? Cats (and dogs) are very good on three legs.

I am very lucky where I live to have a creek behind me lined with trees so I have many different birds. I also have a nut tree in my yard so that attracts some different parrots. I have palms as well and have planted natives like bottlebrush and grevillea. I do have the noisy miners but also lorikeets, rosellas, honeyeaters, butcher birds, magpies, kookaburras, tawny frogmouths, crows, currawongs, occasionally galahs, sulphur crested and yellow tail black cockatoos and possibly others. They are also attracted by the lawn for the seed and worm eaters and the dragonflies, butterflies, moths and beetles and I wish they's get more mozzies! I really am lucky, sometimes I feel ashamed that I am unwell, when really I have so much to be thankful for.

Re: Not Good Enough

Sounds lovely @Till23 .

Tiger lost his leg shortly before he came to me. I've had him 13 years.

We occasionally get currawongs, corellas, butcherbirds etc but seem to have lost the honeyeaters and smaller birds as gardens have been moonscaped for high density townhouses. I'm wanting to do more in my little garden to help biodiversity but it's a losing battle.

I'm not vegan but try to be mindful of critters. Tonight I put a large poisonous spider outside.

Re: Not Good Enough

Yes I always save the spiders @Dimity because they catch the mozzies. However, I rescue any bees that get caught in their webs, which is a very delicate task.

Huntsman I leave alone if they come inside because they will catch any mozzies that get in. The very small spiders that probably come in on my clothes or things, I usually carefully take them out into the garden.

For me, I am only a custodian of my property, so it’s my responsibility to look after everything on it, so a possum lives in my garage and

water dragons and blue tongue lizards live in hidey holes around the place. I leave water out for the birds, especially in summer and plant natives. I trained my dogs not to chase birds. And the magpies especially would let them get quite close. I’m so lucky I can enjoy nature at close range and I try to encourage creatures and they pay me back with their birdsong or catching the mozzies, fertilising my plants or allowing me to watch their antics. I had a gecko that would perch in the sun on a picture frame that I had put on my outdoor table on verandah, and I watched it from my kitchen so I left the frame their for a while until it stopped visiting.

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 it sounds like you live in such a beautiful place and spend time finding beauty in nature, connecting to nature.

I'm around today if you want to talk. Just doing some study and hoping to get this assignment done. So, I'm here, if you need.

Re: Not Good Enough

Hello lovely @Till23, how are you feeling today? I was thinking of you on Friday. Would you like to tell me how things went and how you have been caring for yourself this weekend? 💛

Re: Not Good Enough

Thanks @AuntGlow he died peacefully in my arms on friday afternoon. It's such a hard decision to make I think the vet thought the time was right, but I still worry I let him go too soon.

It's very quiet and lonely in my house, not that he was a noisy dog, but just him walking around or his gentle snoring some times. I think I hear him though and I keep thinking oh I must take him out for a wee, or get him dinner etc. He had a doggy door but it got hard for him to use the steps and then the ramp I installed, so I would take him out the front as only one step.

I feel the grief for my other dog who died in 2023 and my dad who died in 2024 more now.

I went to my sport this morning, which got washed out after about 15mins and then we had breakfast as we normally do. I dropped off one of the other ladies at her house and I spoke to her about things a bit. I'm now sort of regretting telling her about some things, even though she is nice. I just feel as though I should be able to handle things better. She shared a bit about losing her husband, but still I feel bad about burdening another person
