Lacking motivation and a want to do things

Lacking motivation and a want to do things

Hi.

I know what i need to do eg things around the house / housework, exercise, eat healthy etc

But

I just can't seem to do it

I just want to lie down and rest or watch TV or text on my phone

Does anyone else feel like this?

What do you do?

How can we find the motivation to do the basic things we need to do?

Thanks

This might align with @Till23 's thread on Procrastination ?

@D1ng0 may be interested in reading your responses.

I just have to say that it sure is a real thing?

Then I get frustrated because I didn't get anything done!

I find lists help me a lot.

Re: Lacking motivation and a want to do things

I also have a huge problem with motivation, mostly just housework. I haven’t done it for two months, and i live in a small unit, there really isn’t much to do. I even organised someone to come in and clean. I am feeling a bit pathetic but i just don't want to do it. I am not bad with healthy eating, everything just tastes so much better than junk food. Exercise is also a constant problem. Sometimes I don’t even want to do my hobbies.

I don’t know how to get motivated, I just have good days and bad days. Sometimes I allow my bad days.

@tyme unfortunately I just have lists all over the place

@Salzburg yes it is usually housework and jobs at home that I struggle with

I also find it hard to do any hobbies

I do better doing exercise in groups

I've had a gym membership that was a waste of money because I used it so infrequently

Yes @Muffin12 I have multiple lists!

Then I write a new list including all the individual lists in one place so I can prioritise.

I agree @Muffin12 I find it much easier to exercise in groups.

I am pretty good at exercising - I do my sport training at least twice a week sometimes three and then I play table tennis for fun with a group once a week. I am trying to get around to doing aquarobics but because I will be doing that by myself initially - of course I can’t get started. I volunteer one day a week and I am able to do that no problem. I can do things in my garden reasonably easily and the essential housework (not so easily, but it gets done), the more long term organising of the spare room and packing up my Dad’s things (he lived with me last year before passing away) I find really difficult.

Its funny that so many people buy gym memberships but end up going infrequently, you are not alone there.

I like to get into groups when i can but not having a car can make it more difficult to get around. It is much easier to be motivated when in a group.

@Salzburg @Muffin12 @tyme

Do you think you find it hard to do hobbies now because you don’t get the same joy out of it?

Housework is pretty boring and repetitive so it’s kind of understandable it’s hard to do that.

With hobbies though, it seems it’s not that you dislike doing them, so maybe it’s because they don’t give you the joy they once did?

The other thing I’ve become sort of aware of is that it can be an ADHD trait. Do any of you have ADHD? It’s definitely a symptom of depression.

@Salzburgif you want to tag someone so they know you’ve replied type an @ and the first couple of letters and a list will appear of people to choose from

Not ADHD but depression. On my good days I still get joy out of doing craft. I would like to try something new.
