Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder

Hi all!

I am very new to this.

Can anyone shed light on borderline personality disorder and how do you recognise if you have it? I understand it is a disorder that has to be "diagnosed". I am just curious.

Thank you and have a nice night.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder

What would be the use in 'uncovering' the things I didn't like? Other than uncover a whole lot of shame and guilt that is completely unwarranted given the situation (it is never the victims fault). I was between the ages of 3 and 8, I had no choice in being there and I had no idea what was going on half the time - the memories have been repressed until something triggered them to come back last year.

I'm really questioning your empathy/understanding of/experience with mental illness - you seem either very pessimistic and apathetic, or you are just on these forums to fight people who are actually sick.

You uncover them with a new, adult mind in order to see it as just a awkward, disgusting, idiotic, etc situation .. Covert it from pain and fear and dredd and somewhere you don't want to go anymore, into something no matter how many times you go over it its like a leaf in the wind. Then nothing will trigger you again. Mock everything see straight through everything... The worst thing you can do is accept pats on the head and a permanent label...there's no future there. Then it really would have ruined your life.

Hi @Alice1993

Nice to meet you. Hope you going ok.

I think everyone has taken over this thread because your not replying.

I hope you get my post.

I suffer with borderline personality disorder also C-PTSD, MDD, clutter B personality disorder, agoraphobia and anxiety.

It's very hard to deal with and always hard on a daily basis. I do struggle most days but other days are great. I'm now on great medication which help so much. And it's taken a long time to come this far.

If you ever want to talk, I'm here for you

Take care

@SGde3aI think perhaps we could say that about every diagnosis, eh? The pill industry makes a lot of money off of these diagnoses. But also, it's important on a website like this not to call people's most tender and wounded parts imaginary. We are all here learning from one another, helping one another. It's why this website was created. There are many other websites where people discuss the ideas that you are sharing here.
Having no experience with a particular diagnosis in your own life, i.e. no one you love or yourself, it's really easy to say that it does not exist. But I have personal, years-long experience with this thing they call BPD, and it's so much more than some writing on a page.
A woman handed me some reading material on BPD, and I cried for days because somehow someone had written about my life with my mother, even things that I thought were unique to us. There were things there that I've never told anyone. There were things there that I didn't even realize until I read it! I got books and read more, and it healed me. I learned not to blame my mother, because she can't help that some of her alters have BPD, and because BPD people can exist in a living hell of loneliness.
So...some humans, yes, are very greedy and take advantage of those in need, but also, some are seeing this experience firsthand and trying to get help out there to those, like me, who need a different perspective. ❤️

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder

@SGde3a I hear what you're saying. I was wrongly diagnosed bipolar by people who just wanted to pump medicine in me, and because I believed them I went through years of mental wards and suffering. It's very easy, with a diagnosed "name" of something that is "wrong" with you that will never be right again (so they say) to stop working on yourself and doing your part to be whole.
Now I speak out to younger generations about the dangers of spending all their time on their phones but searching for an ADD/ADHD diagnosis and medication. It's an epidemic.
I also understand what you mean about converting pain and "seeing straight through it", as you say. That's something I've done in my own life, when I simply could not go on suffering anymore, but people have to be ready for that. I used to be a fanatic about going round telling people the way in which I got free of my diagnosis, but everyone is on their own level, and can't take your advice if they aren't ready, and then you only succeed in alienating them and denying their pain.
What people need, I've found over many years, is someone to talk to that's listening, that won't give advice without being asked for it, someone that can see right through them but accepts them anyway, and I say that as someone who has given and received that kind of understanding.
I'm not sure this is the place to give the kind of knowledge that you are sharing. ❤️

You're very brave Twinklelight. I know many with those diagnoses that will not get help and refuse to admit anything is wrong. You have hope, friend. ❤️

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder

@jbvkrs0914My father tried to do the same with my mother but she wasn't doing anything on her end to get help or change. BPD, as you well know, is very complex. It takes constant work on oneself and honesty with others, and it draws people like yourself that want to carry the weight alone and try and make it work.
It sounds like your willingness to stay and make it work is your greatest asset, all that you can do on your end. In my opinion, having watched my Dad for many years, if she isn't ready to work on it herself there's unfortunately not a lot you'll be able to do for her. People just have to be ready to change and if she's not then she has more yet to learn. It helps to understand that even when things look very dark, people deserve the right to work it out on their own, and sometimes that means doing it alone. You deserve happiness yourself too.
The very best of luck to you.

This is my first time here too. I don't know how to start a new post to ask questions.
