Is MH recovery like a game of snakes and ladders

Is MH recovery like a game of snakes and ladders

Do people find that their recovery is very much like a game of snakes and ladders?

You manage to climb out of the abyss a few rungs on the ladder, then you slide back down again.

Do you feel like you land in the same place, or do you land at a different place, or do you feel like your back at the same place but you have a bit more knowledge about MH

@Till23 yes most definitely. Sometimes it's back to square one other times it's further back than when I started.

I have lots of knowledge of mental health back actually being able to apply what I know to myself is a challenge.

Always here if you want to chat. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

Yes all of that @Till23 . But looking back what was nice was packing the game board away for a while. I feel I'm back in the thick of it at the moment. But I'm not sure who I'm playing with. Snakes and ladders isn't usually solitaire.

Thanks @MissGremlin I am ok.

Sometimes I just wonder if people have the same experiences.

Actually I am definitely better than when I joined forums, but I have to keep on eye on those snakes because I feel I could stand on one at any time and slip

@Till23 glad you are ok.

You definitely aren't alone with feeling that way.

If you slip on one of those snakes we will catch you and help you back up that ladder ❤️.

Yes @Dimity I have had times where I have packed the board away. Although possibly more like just slipped it under the bed still all set-up in the middle of a game, because I've virtually always had symptoms, but sometimes they've been very mild.

Yes it's not usually a solitary game, but I couldn't think of a better analogy 😂

It was a very good analogy @Till23.

I'm sorry you feel like you're in the thick of it @Dimity

I hope you are as ok as you can be, having recently been in hospital. Do you want to chat about anything?

Re: Is MH recovery like a game of snakes and ladders

Thanks for asking @Till23 . I'm at a bit of a standstill at the moment. Still limited physically, and not in a good place mentally.

I'll head for bed shortly. I'm waking several times a night with health anxiety which doesn't help.

I'm trying to get back to some sort of routine but haven't succeeded so far.

Re: Is MH recovery like a game of snakes and ladders

Yes I know what you mean @Dimity

I also wake up every night, well really in the early morning at least twice, it’s usually different things I wake up thinking about. Sometimes it’s a nightmare, sometimes a flashback, sometimes I’m just worrying about something, usually I’m not worrying about my physical health.

I always had routines when I worked, now I find the lack of routine a bit hard, so I’m trying to make new ones. I find routines very helpful, I think some people don’t seem to need them.

I hope your physical recovery continues in a smooth manner and I hope your mental health can improve alongside your physical recovery.

@Till23 @Dimity @MissGremlin Just passing saw your light 💡 on.

The three of you have raised important points on the MH journey.

Putting aside conditions of being neurodivergent.

Physical health conditions and illnesses can have a profound effect on your MH.

From personal experience malfunctioning endocrine glands can lead to frustration, fatigue, anxiety, fear, depression, and a traumatic experience.

Then of course it is the programmed behaviours, that no longer serve you.

I don’t think I have recovered or become resilient from my experiences. I evolve from them.

Evolution takes a LOT of time and energy.

That’s my truth 🫂
