Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Battles

Battles

Hi all, does anyone else just feel like life is just one big sh!t show? It's just one thing after another, constant drama, family issues, money struggles, stress, anxiety it's just always something.

When do things get easier, do things ever change?

I've been through more than i care to think about in my life but today has pushed me to breaking point and it's bringing up alot of bad memories of previous suicide attempts.

I just feel like it's not worth it, it's not worth fighting, not worth hanging on anymore.

Re: Battles

Was I reading somewhere that you really struggle with sound @NightFury ? Sensory Processing Disorder is common for ND folks - I'm really sound sensitive too, I absolutely REFUSE to leave the house without my noise-cancelling headphones. Do you use ear plugs at all, like Loops? They help for cutting down noise whilst still allowing you to hear some stuff. They help me heaps whenever I am out in a crowded space.

That's so tough @MissGremlin and sounds really scary. Fingers are crossed for you hun.

Yay for humour!! I sometimes say like... some things in life we can either laugh about or cry about. Me, it's usually a combo of both 😝

Me, nah not much this week. Lots of appts mainly, though I did get to catch up with @AuntGlow for some froyo, it was very wholesome 😉

Anything on for either of you cool cats over the weekend? 💜

Re: Battles

@Jynx yeah, I do struggle with sound. I find background noise and loud noises really overwhelming. With background noise, or when there are lots of people in one space...all the voices blend together into one loud buzz and little things like tapping, chairs scraping, kids banging on tables, or playing with those tech deck skateboards...just sends me into overwhelm. I mowed the lawn the other day and the sound of the lawn mower bouncing off the shed made my bones rattle. And I hate banging doors, or anything that bangs. I drive in a silent car - no radio, because it's all just too much sensory overwhelm in a small space.

I just kind of...put up with it for so long and last Friday I caved and brought some Loops to try. They haven't arrived yet.

Re: Battles

Thanks @Jynx. yeah it's very much the way for me either I laugh or i cry. I just feel truly broken at the moment and honestly struggling to see a way forward. I never expected my life to be like this, never expected to be so alone and so hurt by people that once showed so much love and care. I'm going to tap out for the night cos I'm spiralling fast. I'm safe for the moment, I just can't process anything right now, my head is a mess and the thoughts and voices are so loud 😞.

Going to try to do some colouring or maybe just sleep. Night Jynx, hope to catch you tomorrow.

Re: Battles

I dunno about you @NightFury but I get this weird thing... like a 'pulsing' feeling in my ears when I'm overstimulated and there's too much sound. Sometimes I'll be like, opening some kind of crinkly plastic packaging (like a bag of chips) and the high pitch of the sound makes my ears throb.

I also get misophonia, where certain sounds (particularly repetitive but uneven sounds, and gross sounds like chewing) make me feel irrational rage. You ever experienced something like that?

Oh good on ya, I really hope they work out for you! 🤞

Re: Battles

@Jynx I'm not sure if it's a pulsing sound, but it's kind of like...you know when you hold a sea shell to your ear and you can hear the sea...it's like someone stuck that sea shell to my ears, sealed good and proper, and I can't remove it. It's like a hum or a reverberation.

I don't know. I get cranky when kids tap pens or pencils or rulers on their desks, or drag chairs across the room. Some of my kids verbally stim by making random loud noises and that gets me too...and it feels nasty to admit that because it's not their fault.

I hate that I'm constantly growling at them for making small noises. But for me...it's hard to explain, but it's not small. My brain can't process the sound and teach, or talk to them, or go about my day at the same time. It fizzes out.

Re: Battles

@Jynx that's just it, i do need you and this space but I feel like I'm being pulled in every which way and I'm worried that I can't post safely right now with everything going around in my head. So it's safer for me to tap out to avoid getting in trouble cos that's honestly the last thing I'd need on top of everything else.

I've never dealt with voices before and it's scary as hell. I'm safe, just so scared and unsure what I'm supposed to do to manage things.

Re: Battles

@NightFury yeah I get that!! Tapping pens is awful, same with random noises. The worst part is, I know that I am a noisy person 😅 Like I will make funny lil noises, I twirl chains around and around and around, or got my permanent leg-bounce rattling tables around... I know how annoying those sounds can be but they don't bother me when I'm making them!

It's hard when your obligation is to stay in the room hey - like you can't just bail and take 5 to do some breathing. My ADHD meds do help, so hopefully if that's on the cards for your future, it'll help you too! Same with the loopy loops!

@MissGremlin you're not alone in hearing voices hun. I can only imagine how scary it is when this is a new experience for you. Hopefully @RiverSeal is around soon, they have some experience with this and they're really validating when they talk about their experiences. For now you could check out our Blog - Self-help when hearing voices.
