Gardens

Hi @Dimity How is your garden looking? Still green? Weeds? What is your favourite plant/s you have?

were you able to bring Tiger home?

Im slowly trying to teach myself about gardening, thank goodness for Google. One of my neighbours has good plant knowledge, it was her that suggested putting the cuttings into water. She puts water in old juice bottle each time she wants to get cuttings to grow roots.

Re: Gardens

Sorry to hear about your shoulder @Former-Member . Hope you're not incapacitated and the pain is easing.

I've only seen my birdbath in action once, on one of the hot days last summer. A magpie was drinking for quite a while, followed immediately by a noisy miner. But I later found a rainbow lorikeet feather nearby.

Re: Gardens

Thanks @Dimity Pain is less than it was this morning. Physio found quite a lot of sore, tight muscles around the shoulder joint.

After the raised garden beds are built there will be an empty corner of the backyard that I will clearly see when sitting in the lounge room. I’ve liked the idea of bird bath for long, long time and thought should look good in that corner. It will be approx 100cm x up to 100cm. I’m not one that likes large garden statues. Another option, maybe, could be an L shaped 2 (or 3) tiered garden bed with main focus being couple little villages

Re: Gardens

For me I'd go with the birdbath @Former-Member . Mine is in a bad spot in that I don't see it from a window.

It's good you were able to catch up with the physio and she could help.

These cold nights are reminding me I need to do something about my window coverings. The thin curtains need replacing and I can't reach the old kitchen blind.

@Dimity This is the corner I see when sitting on the couch. Originally I was thinking of cat enclosure there with it connected to the house. Have scratched that idea as I know the cats would want to be beside and around me. I’m hoping, at some stage, get alfresco roller blinds fitted which will allow the 3 of us to enjoy being outdoors. I need to investigate about having a steel cross beam installed first, going to be awhile before that happens. Picture not 100% clear as taken through glass and screen door

Re: Gardens

There might be room for a standard grevillea next to the birdbath @Former-Member . (More to attract birds.)

My back garden looks bare at present and the front needs its winter trim.

Re: Gardens

I’m wondering if a grevillea, not too tall though, behind the birdbath plus kangaroo paw plant each side might look ago

Re: Gardens

Sounds nice @Former-Member . There are some lovely colours in kpaws now, and they're easier to grow (resistant to inkspot disease).

I've started cutting back my blue salvia but it's time for my daily walk.

My thoughts is to eventually have 3 raised garden beds against part of the back fence. I want to be able to see the plants in all 3 from sliding doors in my lounge room. Back fence is about 11 metres in length, not doing mistake of having plants along the entire back fence this time.

Im thinking 2 garden beds with succulents and 1 with other sun loving plants that flower (or vice versa). Neighbour who has offered to build them has suggested placing one each in front of the metal trellis on back fence, this would leave medium size gap between each bed. Neighbour has thoughts of building shorter, square, raised garden beds for the gaps in which to possibly grow standard rose.

neighbour has advised he does not have to have double organ transplant which is huge relief for him. Yesterday he told me of a new health concern for which he has a week before can be seen be specialist.

first step is getting quote from him, then saving the 💰. Similar to few other things I would like to have done at my place

Re: Gardens

That's good news re your neighbour @Former-Member . I trust it's because his health has improved.

Would you consider growing some veggies in one of the beds? My backyard is too shady.

A friend is in the middle of renovating. I wish I could. It's not the $ it's the preparation and planning and decisionmaking that feel beyond me.
