Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Appleblossom@Shaz51

My brother and I are 6 and 7 years older than our sister and I am seeing so corelations between my family and yours and it is helpful to think about this - so I am really glad that you are sharing

I am the eldest - and I was so thrilled to have a baby sister - my brother was born to soon after me for me to feel displaced and we were close as children - I am sure my sister was born and finding two noisy children coming in from school every day and always being ahead of her - it had to have been hard and my mother was co-dependent on her mother, my father and my sister and I have no doubt this codependency scarred my sister also

But yes - so much is lost in the words. My sister's memories of our early family life are so different and there is no way she could remotely discuss this - and if one person will not discuss something that has to be the end of the conversation. She has missed so much and I kept my door open for her too - until last year when she went too far - and I will be eternally sorry about that but we have to care for ourselves first when things become so toxic.

For me being a welfare recipient has given me the chance to be creative - I wrote so much for the 1996 Taskforce into Youth Suicide - this is not something I could have done if I was working. I think my submission was 32 well written pages.

I am glad your son is getting some exercise - it has been a bleak day here today - no desire myself to go out walking though I went to the shops. I went to sleep after I got warm and feel a lot better today

All the best Apple

Re: Life can be a Pain

@Appleblossom, you are brave going through your sister (& brother's) coroner's report 😞 - That's so hard 😧. (I haven't been able to even req my girls full report).

That Royal Commission was a sensible time for you to address these things all together - good self care there 💜. .

Isnt it interesting your sister saw a counsellor only the day before she died & it wasn't picked up as imminent? Hard to tell I guess, even for the experts.

The impact of suicide to those near (fily, friemds, staff and inmates), is something many don't factor into the real trauma of it all. Guess there's some comfort for you in this that people around her at the time did care, even though they were not practically attentive enough 😞

Your surviving youngest sister's attitude "cold and rigid" - yet given more 'air time' despite obvious bias & arrogance might not have helped but does add to the full picture as you say. How horrible that she thinks she "always knew" he would suicide - like she 'gave up' long before. Something my sis would say (can anyone really know?). I'm so proud of you Appleblossom, being the bigger person then - "trying to prevent it & create extended family - events and warmth" You did your best my friend 💕

Not sure what you meant: "sent the top sheet from each report to the Royal Commission" is the Royal Commission still current for you? Glad you've made your own statement / air time there..

Yes, the weather is all over the place lately, i didnt know (or forgot) that you suffer arthritis, aggrivated by rain, what a pain! (excuse pun lol).

Yep, most want to be respected for having a degree of common sense, not crazy.

Hmm, drugs - Sadly gov over-regulation is getting worse, especially re S8 medication - poor @Owlunar

I am glad Apple that you're more appreciative of the positives of govt reg re keeping you safe in the past. I get it 🙂

I don't know what that feels Apple, - being "a child of the welfare state" but I do know ppl who diddle the state of social contribution. Just wrong.

Thanks for tagging me Appleblossom, good catch-up 👍💕. You be kind to yourself sista ☺💜💕

Re: Life can be a Pain

Dear @Owlunar

I am very glad you put in the report on youth suicide. Yes it takes a lot of time. A gf from choir came with me to the Vic enquiry and she was a teacher all her life then a pvt piano teacher. She said I presented well. I just thought about all the office jobs I had had in that part of town (Paris end) when I was young and did my thing.

Today my counsellor with an MA admitted she thought she was out of her depth and wanted to put a boundary on our discussion going back to only doing the carer for my son stuff and not getting involved in my CSA stuff. It just spilled out to her first because the therapist in the CBD that was "supposed" to do it was on holiday, again. This local lady is nice and was worried and called the CATT team cos I dont think she realised how much I struggled. I will work with her in her boundaries, but the truth of it was she was the first counsellor in all my years of therapy that I shared issues around my sexuality with. And she went, hey, its too much ... I respect her for her honesty,

Sometimes it is the fact of being personally involved that means we can put in the better report. Objectivity is not all it cracked up to be. Sometimes you need to be care and be involved to know what are the important issues.

We are both older sisters. I was oldest. My brother 18 months younger. One thing that is stuck in my mind about him being caring and responsible was when he pointed out to me that mother feeding littliest sis.. vegemite toast and icecream was not healthy. Mother did not eat with us I had to do the mother thing and share out the food and "supervise" but not get any support in discipline... whatever. I am realising how atypical my upbringing was and how conditioned I was and totally oriented to pleasing mother. I did not think through the health and different type of foods she was given as toddler when we were school age. She has big weight issues now. He was just matter of fact and opened my eyes and made me think. Usually I felt more grown up but he saw that one before me. I was more doing peace mission trying to calm waves, but he got down to tin tacks and nutrition before me, which is unusual for a boy. After his behaviour became frequently aggressive and negative I forgot some of his positive sides. I tend to stick up for people and LOOK for the GOOD in them. Through her 20s the icecream became an endless credit card and overseas trips. I thought yay I will be able to share wonderful travel stories with lil sis, but it was always a look down her nose at me. I was a dill and did not get how much she thought she was superior because I felt like a parent to her, with dad gone. Thanks @Former-Member for noticing and caring.

I walked today, was rained on, but that never hurt me. I am not a "you'll catch your death of a cold type."

Big mental health for me day. Psychologist and CATT team. I said I would be the mad and bad one. and then I was getting close to crossing boundaries with my son, telling him I am on a mission to find pointy sticks ... so that I can make it too uncomfortable in bed and we were laughing together but he was being politically incorrect... and so I warn him that I am captivated by charisma as a parent but that when I leave the room I might be cross ... so he explodes in laughter again.

Then he said he just wanted to get to his birthday and have a good day at the zoo with gf and me (she is back). That sounded like totally normal healthy young man stuff. I like that idea too.Its next week.

@Former-Member You and @Owlunar have had some of the most important conversations about dealing with death of a loved one. All my grief counselling did not touch it, cos none of them could talk from experience.

SO thank you Ladies. and @Shaz51 cos you keep hanging around and being a really decent sort to everyone and caring.

Though I was in the silent protests before Julia called the Royal Commission, I some how managed to be last in the queue to be seen. Its next month.

The CATT team guy tonight said I hesitate before taking action all the time. Its true. I also asked this couple if they thought I was angry as the last 2 said it was very strong. I felt I was the same intense bad-joke cracking mad loopy loon. They said I did not appear angry or anxious??

They/We are all different.

Hiya @Shaz51
Hi @Owlunar 💜 was wondering how my mentor pain warrior was going. Thanks for checking in. Accidentally crashing on the couch and waking hrs later can be quite disorientating, and self f you like me - hard to move, stiff & sore after 😞 Feel for you. I need to be on a flat firm surface for my back. You must have been really tired to crash on the couch. Are you OK? Really? Wish I could visit with a yummy quesh (? spelling - egg thinging :/) q & salad for lunch.

Oh, king parrot is calling, have to go put out some wild bird mix. Back later 💜🌿💕

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Former-Member

Yesterday was weird - I seemed to be out of focus - I could not think enough to figure out the symptom yesterday - yes - out of focus - as if my life was wearing grimy glasses and I was trying to read my mobile phone in the sunshine - aw crap - what a day!!

Actually I went to sleep sitting up - or slouching more like it - in an arm chair - I woke early yesterday but I was to disorientated to get myself up - eg - what do I do first - have brekkie or clean my teeth - or my medication - I needed it but had I had it already - that notebook is in my bed room - mmmm - shower and change - or just stay where I was -

Which is what I did - I finally got some brekkie and went back to sleep - not good - I should have gone to bed - but that was yesterday

I went to bed early this morning - once I felt better I got back into my routine and it is amazing how much easier it is to have a routine however strange - but thanks - I think you would like to visit with a yummy quiche - that is an egg and bacon pie I think - I have not tried to make one

But I do scrambled eggs and eggs and bacon and bacon and eggs and stir-fry and fried rice and of course - chicken sandwiches and chicken sandwiches - so you would be most welcome with a quiche

Let's see if I can find one

Yesss!!!!! There are all kinds of quiche - I never thought about it before but here's a Quiche Lorraine

That and salad will be fine - and I might even have enough chicken left on my cook chook to add a little chicken - I mean a small amount of chicken - let's not have a little chicken or little chicken for lunch

Re: Life can be a Pain

Haha @Owlunar, you still have your sense of humour.

I know what that disorientation thing feels like. Once after a nifht shift i crashed at 8am and woke in the dark more than 12hrs later - wasnt sure what day or time it was. So confusing. Shift work never agreed with me - so hard.

This Friday just gone (after a big day) I woke 5:30am'ish to the garbage truck in the distance and realised I hadn't put the bins out. I scurried to my feet, nearly fell down the back steps, grabbed the bins, tripped on a root in the front yard, and started shaking - realised it was REALLY COLD and there I was standing in on the curb in my pj daggies hoping nobody was watching, shocked from the cold snap (-2° apparently brr). Gosh, really out of touch with my body, went back to bed and started again 2hrs later. Maybe not a good example but...

I have to keep a pill diary lately - so I don't double up on prn pain meds or go without when not sure. Once I made myself really sick doubling up on ALL my meds (think thats what it was, really low bp, couldnt stans up...) the BP tabs nearly took me out. Now I do my own weekly dispenser so that doesn't happen but need a notebook for the ORN's and vitamins (some of the heavy minerals shouldn't be mixed apparently - like iron, mag & zinc) and sometimes I just can't stomach the big ones.

Anyway, I had porriage & armonds today, its so quiet. My legs and arms feel really heavy but my spirit is sound so gonna try drag myself into the garden a bit.

Wanted to visit my son this weekend (he broke his arm and was made reduntant last week), but he put me off till tomorrow. Last night he asked me not to come 'till next week as he has a stack of things to do to get into 'job hunting mode' etc I wanted to clean a bit and Cook a few meals but he says he's managing with one hand enough. He has good friends there dropping in so think hell be OK. He doesn't like me dropping by without asking.

Well, I better get up, try do something, might start with walking the block.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Appleblossom

Yes - the Task Force for Youth Suicide was important - there were 5 points for submission and I wrote on 4 of them and 32 pages - they were double spaced and had Footnotes and a Bibliography - it must have made an impact because I was asked to speak at a conference on the subject so my name appears twice in the journals they sent me afterwards

Then I was in hospital for treatment on my back and I was sharing a room with a dear old lady that time and when I told her I had sent in 32 pages she told me that no one would read it and I should have made it straight to the point - I was such a young thing in my fifties then and I gazed at her and wondered if I should make a different point but no - I learned that nothing would change what I had written just as it would never change her mind - but she was a nice old duck

It's interesting - your consellor wanted to put a boundary on your discussion and not get into the CSA stuff - I am wondering - who's paying for all of this and what if we leaned forward and said "But I need to discuss it - if you don't know enough about it yourself maybe I can explain" - something like that

I had an epiphany the last time I saw a therapist - I have been better ever sinced - I said

"People - therapists, priests, doctors, parents, the well meaning etc - can tell us whatever and we can agree but think differently. Where does therapy go then?"

Her reply "I can't possibly know how what I say will affect my client - etc"

And wow - that's it - we are supposed to be in charge of the visit - and what we need to talk about it paramount - but then - they are people too and need their boundaries. Personally I have learned to challenge professional "boundaries" - I have found the limits in some people and all the time I have my own opinions which I can change

But when it comes to some things we have our own nuture/nature patterns and then medication is not simply bound by pharmacology but by personal biochemistry - what works for one person is quite different for another

My sister is very superior in her remote and icy heights - or depths - she thinks she is the only one who has the right opinion - it's her way or the highway but then - in her mind there is no highway - her thoughts are so limited - or education less than mine but it's life experience that really measure the method - my sister has boundaries on what she will talk about which has narrowed our contact to nothing - and although I guess my door will always be open she would have to behave herself to come in

Yes @Former-Member and I talk a lot about grief etc - something not always covered in presribed reading - I brought the idea into a fourth year seminar when we were doing Mary Byshe Shelley - the death of a child is so scary for so many people it is almost not allowed to happen let alone be discussed - I was glad to find a female councellor who allowed me to talk about my son - I was lucky when I found the Commpassionate Friends and found their library and read everything they had - I am sure -

One thing - there are no right words - and just saying this can relieve someone whose grief is new and raw - or they have had the memories come up from the depths. Your sister must have been like a child to you seeing as your mother was kind of distant and not far past vegemite toast and icecream - not really big on fruit I guess

Thinking of you Apple- I took yesterday off - I got on line after midnight last night and wrote a couple of posts but the longer ones had to wait until today

Sending my best thoughts
