Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Relieved to hear you are home and also the pain has significantly decreased @Owlunar Take it easy on yourself for a while but also allow yourself to enjoy the freedom from the pain you are feeling.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Thanks @Zoe7

It's good to hear from you - I know you haven't been well lately and therefore pacing yourself and allowing yourself time to recover -

Through the last weeks I haven't been keeping up with other people - so I don't know what's been happening in other people's lives unless it's right in front of me - but I know your hand was injured in some way and I hope that is recovering - and also - your sister's cat died and that is so sad - I totally understand that

I am taking it easy about picking up the threads of my own life but doing bits and pieces and my daughter is going through the same thing also my surgery was to deaden the pain hers has caused post operative pain which is harder to deal with - we are both plodding alone - phoning each other, encouraging and supporting - it's new for her and she has asked my advice a few times which is new too - and satisfying that she is maturing

Care for yourself as you do Zoe - sending my best thoughts

Constant pain is hard to deal with @Owlunar but it is good that your daughter is asking your advice and you are both encouraging and supporting each other

My hand is healing well. My Cat bit it at the vet's and after 2 days it needed urgent medical attention as the infection had gotten into my blood. An operation, meds and 4 days in hospital later and I was allowed to go home. Had follow up appointments and daily dressing changes for a while but all on the mend now.

In the last 3 months I have know 5 people that have passed away as well as my sister's little cat. It has been one hell of a few months Still very much numb to it all because if I feel anything I know I will fall apart - so numb it is.

Keep taking it easy Dec and keep looking after yourself. I am doing the best to do the same 👍

Hugs and hugs and hugs

Hi @Zoe7

About your hand - yes - I understand - I remember Cat was ill and needed some kind of operation - and when they are in pain animals will bite or scratch - my old cat scratched me a few times when she was ill - once was really nasty though I didn't get ill myself - she must have been in pain and it's two years ago now

Cat must have been very ill to bite you so hard you got an infection like that - I am sorry to hear that and I am glad you are recovering - that was serious - so much happens in the forum it is easy to miss things at times - still - I believe we all need to put ourselves first at times - we both seem to understand that and put it into practice

As well as your sister's little cat you have had known 5 people who have passed away recently - that is a huge number - and it would be devastating to have one die after another like that - did it have anything to do with the COVID crisis? You didn't have it quite as we did in Melbourne - and people die of endless numbers of situations - I am sorry this happened

Any death diminishes us in some way for a time - then - I truly believe - the people go on living as part of our story when there journey ends. Listening to people is so valuable - allowing someone to express their loss is a true gift. And you give so much and I know - feel so much

Again - self-care is first

Thanks for updating me - the forum is a great place and important for me to keep in touch with other people - but like everyone else - I need time to heal too

Re: Life can be a Pain

No none related to COVID @Owlunar We in the south where not really touched at all by COVID. There were a few early cases but from then on none at all. There was a cluster in the North West and a few deaths as a result but that was controlled really quickly so our state has been very much free of COVID for the majority of the time - the added advantage of living on an island - restrictions put in place early worked really well.

Cat does not like the vet and certainly does not like being poked and prodded. I was trying to hold her so the vet could get blood out to test and she was really scared. As soon as she bit me she snuggled into me trying to hide. I did not even really feel the pain until afterwards - was too worried about her. Then I did not seek medical attention until after I had her home the next day after her operation. In that time the infection certainly took hold and I was extremely unwell. My sister came down to look after my fur babies not realising while she was a way that her own little boy was so sick ...it was one hell of a week

Like you I have days away from here - it is just too much sometimes and feeling like we cannot do anything sometimes means we also need time away. It is not because we do not care - quite the opposite - we care a lot but we can only be there fully for others if we are looking after ourselves too.

Keep taking that time for yourself Dec - it is super important

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hello dear @Owlunar ... I havent seen you around in a while, so I thought I would drop by and see how you are going. And also to remind you that I, along with others here, miss you when you are not around and tend to worry about you. I know you've been through a lot, and I also know that your daughter's recovery will be a longer term thing. Which can be very discouraging for all. I hope your shoulder is still on the improve and giving you the freedom to start to do a little more than you've been able to in a while. Please though Dec .... not TOO much!

Anyway, I come bearing a gift. Cannot visit without bringing you something, now can I? Hope you enjoy.

Looking forward to talking again soon, or whenever you're up to it.

@Anastasia sending love to you also.

@Owlunar ... did you read of @Shaz51 devastating news about the fire which destroyed her home last Friday? Hope you are managing okay Shaz. Very much thinking of you right now, as you remain at your Mums house for now.

@Emelia8

Hi Em

Thanks for the post and the pictures - I appreciate them

I am okay - mostly very tired and it's stretching my shoulder and causing pain to type. I am gradually getting my life back into order after weeks of letting things go -

I understand you are in pain and afraid of the news you might get about your cancer and that is understandable - I would be too. You have been through a lot and you have no real support in your life and this is a time when you could use it - I wish life was better for you -

And you have extra grief issues right now - not being able to go to a funeral is really hard - the COVID lockdowns have hurt everyone in someway -

So far away here - even if it is a virtual world - we can still reach across the miles and extend ourselves in some way -

Thanks for your kind thoughts - I am okay emotionally though the prognosis for my shoulder isn't good there are still less evasive things than a reverse shoulder replacement and I choose that road

So - I am sending my love
