Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Appleblossom

I think we do get more stoical in the later years of our lives - my body feels as if it belongs to a senior citizen but I do not - I am not ready to go over the hill right now but there are days when I am just physically tired - today - I am not so bad - I had a long hot shower before I went to bed and then took a muscle relaxant and sorted out the heat pack and slept really well - it does make such a difference to sleep well

Tax - yes - I remember - I always did my own tax when I worked enough to earn enough - I paid everything by cheque so the butts kept track of taxable items - things are different now and I have no idea of modern tax law. When I worked for a CPA I had a long bench for sorting out people's receipts - they could have done it better I am sure but I love fiddling around with bits of paper - I could do it all day and through time I have been paid to do it - we are all different.

I'm glad we met here - it's over four years since I joined - how time flies - I am glad I found this forum - and I love other people's snippets too - perhaps we need a thread for snippets -

Sending best thoughts

Thanks @Zoe7

Very tired - I understand that - I feel very tired in the mornings and usually okay at night and tend to go to bed late which makes me a late starter

We do what we can and if you are teaching today you would want to go to bed early and I am glad you made the choice to keep posts short for the great good and I wish you the best for today

Re: Life can be a Pain

Thanks @Former-Member

I usually feel tired in the mornings - and achey - this morning though still a bit stiff and sore I definitely had a better start than recently. Getting that MRI print-out was a shock and it took a bit of adjusting to it.

It's the case of knowing more about what the print-out said than most people would have and words like "grossly" and "substantial" mean more to me - but hey - just typing them looks impressive - I know the anatomical words as well - aw - but I am getting used to the idea and not in a hurry to deal with anything just now

There are times when letting time pass is not procrastination but more like giving ourselves time to heal - and I think I need to do that for whatever time is required. There is no hurry but shoulder pain can be "exqisite" and "deep" - and who wants that?

I am sure the abrupt change in the weather a couple of weekends back triggered this - and last week was a bad week so I am giving myself this week to rest and then make decisions - there has been some elective surgery being done but I am sure there will be a lapse until life gets back to something like normal and one thing about getting older is that we can allow this to happen

And when I was a lot younger I remember trying to get this shoulder fixed the first time and not getting past the GP for help. And it happened while driving but the TAC insisted it was an old injury and it was not. My private insurance said the TAC should pay for it and the TAC said my private insurance should pay for it and this argument too up time and finally I saw a specialist and he took his time and months past until I had the first operation ankd it was a very tangled time in my life.

So how different I feel about it now. I don't have the pressure of a young person wanting it all done straight away. I can wait - I have learned not to stretch that shoulder anyway - and know I can manage somethings one-handed. Even though the pain is pretty strong at times I am not afraid of it - I guess I have developed tolerance to it through decades of different kinds of pain - and maybe my threshold is higher - I don't know about that. But yeah - the shock has worn off I think and I can let time pass and this is a hugely better way to deal with what would once have been a disaster but now is an inconvenience

Thanks Sherry - you are a very wise person - you say the right things so often - I am really glad you are one of us - you mean a great deal to me and to others here obviously

Re: Life can be a Pain

@Owlunar I was extremely tired this morning - all I wanted to do was sleep when I got to work but the little devils would not let me - and I did try lol I told them I just wanted 5 minutes sleep and they collectively (4 of them) pulled out my chair and begun swinging me around ....after tapping me with their pencils to keep me awake. It was actually really funny and we all laughed the entire time. I woke up a bit as the day went on but was home really late so still have a little to do before I can head to bed. Tomorrow I am not on class though so can work my way through everything at my own pace.

Hi @Bluebird3

And thanks for the shout out @Former-Member - I don't mind the tag at all and I am grateful you caught BlueBird's post and I have moved the convo over here

I can't post much tonight - I am having a bad pain flare myself and thought to just respond to a few messages before I went to bed

It does drag us down to be in pain - and also this condition has been made harder because the Government has clamped down on a lot of different pain medications which is a really rotten thing to have happen -

It seems you have fibromyalgia and that is a toughie - the fibro fog and all that - it really does make life harder fo you to endure and when you are in a relationship that is not good for you then it is harder - we all need to be kind to ourselves first and foremost but from what I have read many women is any kind of abusive relationship feels it's her fault - it's not of course - and I encourage people to try and find their best self - change what we can and accept what we can't and have the wisdom - that is paraphrased and I love that prayer because it has helped me sort out my life

I have had chronic pain for a long time and I had severe reactive depression for years decades ago now - I thought my life could never change but it did and not at all in the way that would have been easier for me - but this change was necessary - and having had it happen I was free to heal gradually and it took a long time

So - I am looking forward to hearing more from ou and I am really glad you have found us. Welcom to the forum

Hi @Zoe7

Tiredness - oh yes - I certainly get that and I also know that napping with a classroom of youngsters could be a disaster - so chair pulling and pencil tapping must have been hard to take but if it was fun and it kept you awake until coffee break then that's good.

But yes - I understand tired - I am writing about that in my next post - this morning was very wet and cold and add tired - not a good start. No kids here to tap me with pencils though - I did go back to sleep after I got up and turned the TV on and had my coffee. It took all day to feel better and eventually did - Next post coming up

Hi @Zoe7 @BlueBay @Former-Member @outlander @outlander @Shaz51 @Appleblossom

cubist owlIt's good to look at life from a different angle and I really do feel like this owl right now - I thought of you Apple when I found it - and it certainly fits my life right now

I have a referal to see a shoulder specialist - imagine devoting ones whole life to shoulders and elbows - or hips and knees - and I heard an old lady was critical that her friend's grandson was a navel surgeon - (hehe)

Anyway - I have had the feeling that the people at the clinic are stressed out with being in the clinic with people coming in all the time and concerned about catching COVID-19 - I used to get a bit of social life there but not lately and I am glad I am not working with the public -

Also the chairs have been spaced out and the rest of them are stacked in the back corridor - at least it's not likely to have someone sit nex to anyone else and get friendly and breathe in there space -

Anyway - the shoulder - yes - the easiest way of treating this is not on for me - I am allergic in a serious way to NSAIDS - I can't risk them - it would be a medical emergency and it happened many years ago and I didn't like it one scrap so it's not happening now - bugger - a whole class of medications that could help.

Anway - I am going to see the surgeon who operated the last time I had the acromioplasty which worked so well - and just see - maybe the pain flare I am having will have settled down by then and it will be easier - I am not worried by the lack of movement - I can do most things - and the cause - my age - and people keep telling me I am only as old as I feel - and that comment is wearing thin.

I am going to bed soon - I will arrange the pillows so as I am resting back on them and have the heat back right behind my shoulder and read for a while and hopefully sleep - maybe with the help of the pain specialist I can have his magic needles ease the pain enough to allow me not to have shoulder replacement surgery - Just because science has invented a way of correcting eroded cartilge by taking out the whole joint doesn't mean we have to have it.

Two of my grandparents died in their 70s and they were really old - I seem much younger than they did then - my parents both made it to their 90s - and as far as I know my father only had one operation in his whole life

Enough said - I am going to bed - it's time

G'night

I hope you had a good sleep last night my second mum

how are you this afternoon xoxox

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Shaz51

I got a good sleep last night - I was on-line for a while and it was late before I went to bed - I often feel well in the evenings and this was the case last night

And I slept for a long time - I got up in time for lunch - I feel as if I am having a back-lash from finding out my shoulder is so bad and I can't get through to the shoulder specialist until Monday - they are working reduced hours because of COVID-19 - but that might not prove to be a problem because if my pain specialist can control the pain that would be enough - I am not busting a gut to play tennis after all

I am okay this afternoon - having a shoulder flare like this brings back memories of my son at this time of year - okay - I can't change the past and I can accept what happened - the idea is to sit with it when I have to and move on when I am ready

I am past beating myself up about it
