Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Owlunar
sorry its taken me so long to respond to you

im sorry about storm thats triggerred abit of asthma. I have to be careful of those too. Sometimes a day or 2 rest is needed to recover from even a small amount of asthma.

So glad that youll get to see the new pain specilist sooner then expected. Youve been in pain for a while and even though its a chronic condition im sure there are some things that would be helpful for you. Theyll be one extra support person in your life alongside your gp and psychologist as well.

I dont get to watch the cup this year. I have to get the kids but theres tons of replays after it so ill still get to see it and who the winner is.

Yes the operation I was waiting to have was the dental work. The stitches are gums are healing well however there is a nerve that sustained injury the Inferior alveolar nerve. Ive done some research it makes sense however most of what it mentioned as treatment are bandaid solutions or surgery. Im ok with the surgery option but im hoping it doesnt come to that. It apparently only happens in 5-10% of people so its not all that common. The other nerve is the one if it happens is the more common one and iften fixes itself within 8 weeks. The one I have is tougher.

It is uncomfortable, its a month already and im still having trouble eating anything besides pureed foods. Its also affecting me mentally as well as my smile seems to only appear on one half of my face and my speech can get quite slurred. It was embarrassing the other day as twice I had to actually spell out the word I was trying to say because they couldnt understand me. Its making me very self conscious and nervous being around other people.

I just had another procedure done as well in hopes itll ease my pcos symptoms as well. Lots of cramping the past few days but its abit better today. Was incredibly painful to have inserted but its done now and looking like a good option so far. Just abit embarrassing that there was more then just the nurse and gyno (male of all people 😬 so was quite awkward but was trying to be as gentle as possible plus 2 others who were in training, a least they were ladies.

how are things going for you today?

Re: Life can be a Pain

Thanks for understanding @outlander !

It means a lot because I've had to isolate myself from people for the fear of hurting them or being hurt by them.

At least I've got a safe space here where people understand.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @outlander

Thanks for your reply - I know that there are times when we cannot answer a post as soon as we would like but when that reply comes - it's great

I am sorry you're having so much pain after having the teeth out - it can be more problematic at times but it's never fun having wisdom teeth out - my daughter was really ill afterwards and readmitted to hospital for a few days - I guess you have had a lot of pain and hearing that you have nerve damage is serious - that is not good at all.

I just had a look at pics of the inferior alveolar nerve - ouch - that's the one they give us a nerve block into when we have teeth filled on the lower jaw, I can tell you this - I had a lot of pain after have two abscessed teeth out in that area and it was extremely unpleasant and I understand how rough it is - but the good news is that in time - it seemed like forever but it was a few months - it went away forever. I hope this happens quickly for you too - I hope you don't need to have another operation for it - I have yet to read up everything about that - I do love doing some research - it sounds as if you have had enough - and eating pureed food - alas - I think you managed to draw the card for problems and this is tough

But having your face only working on one side and having your speech slurred is more than tough - it's bloody hard work - I can only hope that heals - without further issues - I would be embarrassed and nervous around other people too. It would seem like a problem that actually makes itself worse because it's really hard to explain when you have trouble articulating. It might be worth seeing a speech pathologist. Aww - a variety of the pits

Did you have surgery for endometriosis? I think I know what your are talking about - I really hope that works for you as well - I imagine cramping would be a problem after that. All the best - I know having a male doctor would be a problem for you

I am feeling okay today - my GP thinks that I am having stress changing specialists - he could be right but we have had very changeable weather in Melbourne and cold and wet weather as well which aggravates my spinal problems. I still have medicaion for my pain and I will not increase it although I could legally do this - but I don't want to - it will be excellent to see the new specialist - he does facet joint injections and maybe these will help.

So I am seeing the psychologist tomorrow and in three weeks - the pain specialist

In the meantime the Melbourne Cup - they are bringing the horses out now and I love these animals out. I am watching TV while I am writing this. It's a pity you can't watch the race today but yes - they do reruns - I have money on some of these horses

This is my annual splurge and really - not much of a splurge - I get excited at this stage and have a great natural high when the race is run

All the best Outlander and thanks for tagging me elsewhere - some people can deal with their BPD - as hard and has unpleasant as it is - other people cannot - it has to be a very hard condition to manage

So - after several wet and rotten days the Cup has sunshine and warm weather - it's looks fantastic at Flemington today

I'm going off-line to enjoy the race - my typing is suffering badly

All the best

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hey @Owlunar

m sorry your daughter was so ill afterwards too! I cant wait till its all over now. I miss eating normal food and its so disheartenting and bland now to eat the same things all the time.
I have had enough indeed. I was worried about other complications that I didnt really think about this one.

Im glad your feeling ok, changes can be quite stressful but I hope that these changes will be beneficial and your new pain specilist will be just the right person for you.

I did end up getting to watch the melbourne cup, I picked up there was something wrong with a horse even before the news article came out. I was sitting with mum and I said to her theres something wrong with that horse and she said maybe but he looks tired. Not to long ago a news article has come out about that horses injury.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Owlunar ... glad you enjoyed the Melbourne Cup today. No winner for you, I think I read, for your one punt for the year. My Mum was the same ... every year she would go into town and line up at one of the pubs to put her annual bet on the Cup. She would usually pick 3 horses and back them each way. She actually did pretty well with her once a year bet. There is no doubt that the horse races are quite a spectacle. Such beautiful creatures. And all the colour and glamour around racing. I know a lot of people are anti-racing, but I have mixed feelings about the industry. My husband is a regular punter on the races, and I have an occasional bet through the year. Today I backed one horse each way, but then had a quinella (first two places) and also a trifecta (first three places). My main pick finished in the second third of the field. My quinella won, and basically gave me my money back for the day. My trifecta was missing third place, but would have won had they not upheld the protest. Oh well .. thats gambling for you I guess. But I do find it a bit of fun. I recall as a little kid living in the remote bush, we always followed the Melbourne Cup. It is always very sad to hear/see horses break down however. Its a very sad fact that broken legs for horses is essentially incurable. I guess it could happen anywhere, including running around in a paddock enjoying themselves. But its still sad.

Sorry to hear that the colder weather the past couple of days is causing extra pain for you. My back pain also typically worsens with colder weather. I hope the pain specialist you will see in 3 weeks time will be helpful, perhaps with the facet joint injections. Is that a cortisone injection you are referring to? I had one of those in my shoulder about 6 years ago when I had a torn tendon and developed a frozen shoulder as a result. It was so so painful. But the cortisone injection worked a treat. I remember thinking to myself afterwards 'why did I wait 2 months before getting this looked at?'. I hope your psych appointment tomorrow goes well.

Thinking of you.

Sherry
