Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Hi @Appleblossom

It wasn't easy to practise my assertiveness within a group of people I didn't know - but hey - these two men were asking for it - totally refuting what other women and I had to say - not just giving space to have a different opinion but really blasting our opinions

Things did settle down - people had good manners - and the women were strong and intelligent

After all - we all have the rights to our opinion - I think this is what the course is about actually - having a philosophical opinion knowing everyone else's opinion is different and they are allowed

I'm so glad I kept some of my books from way back when - I have some reading before next week - this is not a course I would have wanted to jump into without having done some reading before this

But yes - we all have the right to be heard Apple - there are people around who haven't heard that over the sound of their own voices

So pleased that you are seeming more positive @Owlunar You have certainly had several difficult months and it is nice to hear you took the lead to challenge other's thinking in the course and then others felt they also had the confidence to follow your lead. That must have been really satisfying Hon

Hi @Zoe7 @Appleblossom @utopia @Shaz51 @BlueBay

I have been busy - mostly getting ready for my philosophy class - I am really enjoying myself there and seem to be making some good contacts - one class at a time is enough though I might take on more next term

I got thoroughly confused with 4 different sets of ideas on pain management - I do not need to lower myself to the lowest common denomintator in the argument and my GP is supporting me in what I have already chosen to do - there is no hurry there and I will maintain what I am trying although it is not easy to start titration - I am having one of those spells when my spine tends to get inflamed and seizes up and makes starting some days difficult but I have been here before and know it passes

It's harder to make a decision on my next holiday when I am having a flare with my back pain though - but if I go with my feelings on the subject it will work out - maybe not just yet - there is plenty of time

I hope everyone is as well as they can be - this really is a safe place to share our thoughts and feelings on certain subjects

There is stuff I need to do at the shopping mall - I need that new phone badly - maybe tomorrow - oh yes - I really need to attend to that

Re: Life can be a Pain

It is so good that you are enjoying your philosophy class @Owlunar It both keeps you busy and your mind working There is definitely no rush to take on more until you feel you are ready. It was much like that with work for me - the gradual increase is a good way to go.

I know you really want to go on that next holiday but it does make it more difficult to do when you are in pain. It is good that your GP is on your side with what you need there though. Flare ups are hard enough to handle without having that support on your side. I hope it settles for you very soon and you can decide on your next holiday.

I am having a very lazy day - some housework, a little rest and now watching the cricket final. Going to do a few more things as I watch that to get ready for the week.

Hope you have a good week yourself Dec. Hugs and hugs

Good Luck from me with your endocrinologist. @Shaz51 Lots has been going on with you, your mum and Mr Shaz.

Hugz

@Owlunar Your attitude helps me feel more normal ... I can see a lot of me ... in your posts ... general interests ... dealing with spinal flare ups ... helps lighten my load and loneliness.

@Zoe7 It is so good to hear you talking about teaching again. SO very good and inspiring for us all.

Re: Life can be a Pain

I know I have come a very long way to get back to teaching @Appleblossom and I feel like this school and the work I am doing there is exactly what I needed to get back into it. There is very minimal planning for me so far and that gives me plenty of time to recover after each day and not have to spend hours at home doing what I used to do. I do want to get back into my own classroom eventually but for now this support role seems like a good fit for me. I do hope that my getting back into work is encouraging for others - I know what a big thing it is for me and where I have come from - so if that is inspiring to others then that also makes me happy - thank you for your kind words Apple
