Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

Sounds like a plan re holidays. @Owlunar

Playing swaparoo with a cocktail of major medications seems a little unwise to me, even if it is becoming a fashion. Titrations and listening to the body, which can only be done by the individual person is better.

The feeling is mutual.

The last 2 weeks have been huge for me in many ways, but good.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Playing Switcheroo - I love that expression @Appleblossom

Exactly what it felt like - having a major medication changed for another one that I would have to get from the pharmacy everyday until I proved that I could be trusted with it - as if I haven't already done that

Regardless - that doctor thought it terribly inconvenient to have to go to the clinic twice a week for an injection - whereas imo I have a bit of social life - get to be the centre of attention for a few minutes - not exactly a huge amount of attention - and walk out feeling heaps better - and manage all of that myself - wonderful -

I wonder if being a woman or being older or not carrying my qualifications around with me is the problem at times - what would an old woman know? How could I know anything? - All of that is the way I feel sometimes - and it feels patronising to be spoken to that way - I guess that is not hard for anyone else to understand

But I have myself back in the frame today after a quiet weekend and thinking a lot - much better to have my dignity intact

The change in my oral medication is one I have wanted in place for a long time - it has been hard to get that approved but now it has been - so my idea is to get one tritration settled and then work on the other

Even positive changes in our lives can be stressful - even if we had a huge increase in our income - got a fantastic house in a beautiful location - huge improvements in our lifestyle - we would still experience stress - but still - better good changes are great -

I wish you the best - I know there are things you are not free to discuss - or choose not to - that's okay - things were very dark and troubled for you for a long time and you have been working through it

I really admire you for all of that

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Owlunar I found out last Friday what school I would be at and met the Assistant Principal on that day. She gabve me a tour of the school and while it will take me some time to get to know my way around it did help today that I had at least been to the school before I started. Today and tomrrow are PD and set up days - so not much I can really do but help other people with setting up their classes.

I understand about the dentist -- really need to make an appointment myself but need to wait a few weeks until I have been paid and also paid off a couple of bills. Think I will be living off my credit card for a couple of weeks but that is okay if I have regular income coming in so it can be paid off next pay.

I am looking forward to hearing about your philosophy discussions and what you are learning. I did a year of philosophy at uni but I really had no idea what it was all about at that stage - I would love to do it again - that life experience can make a world of difference.

There was a distinctive smell of smoke across the city again today so the bushfires are still quite bad in the south. I haven't had any updates this afternoon but will watch the local news tonight to see what is happening down there. Hobart probably not the best place to visit at the moment if you have any kind of breathing difficulties but the smoke in the air comes and goes - hoping very much it goes soon and those areas affected are safe,

We do develop very real friendships on here and I agree that they are just as important as those off-line. They are different but no less important. I certainly have some strong bonds with people here and they mean a lot to me,

Hope you are feeling better in the cooler weather and I am pleased your doctor is back and you are on the same page with your pain meds.

Take care Dec. Love and hugs

Re: Life can be a Pain

It's so great you have your work settled as far as possible so far @Zoe7 - it is tough living with uncertainty - I guess that's pretty well something we all have but at varying degrees - I know the feeling of turning up at a new place to work - we have all these unasked questions in our heads - we have to actually get there to understand the situation - I really hope all of this works out quickly

I did first year Philosophy at university too - I found it the hardest subject I took on at uni and the one gave me the best ideas to continue with my degree - and to this day it works for me - I really wonder sometimes how different my life would have been if I hadn't done that year - and it was a whole year then

But this discussion group is more about new ideas and I have been reading about them in a magazine called The New Philosopher and it does focus upon issues that are occuring to people in the C21st and I think I have done more thinking in the last 18/19 years than I did before - I have a strong feeling that it's possible to take on more ideas as we get older - at least I do - I have more time to think about it

It is good my own doctor is back and we do agree with my ideas of reducing titration - I have been in a lot of pain though - and I have things I want to do but I know better than to go out in hot weather or when I am in pain - I guess I will write this in my thread - if I stick this out for that long

There's a lot of fires in Victoria as well as Tasmania - Melbourne is smoky too - I can't seem to focus on going away right now - but I will get there - I go with my intuition a lot and things work out well - I follow that a lot

Again - all the best with your work

@Zoe7 @Appleblossom @Shaz51 @BlueBay @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Sophia1

Oh - this is my thread!

Okay - I have reduced one item of my medication - big deal - I am happy with myself for making this change but wow - pain plus - I am not happy with that

I still have a life to live - I am supposed to go and get a new phone and get a hair cut etc - even stuff from the shops - I haven't been out of the house for days - today I am going to the doctor and talk about it with him but this isn't fun at all and as much as I expected it - it's not working right away and this feels disappinting - so I speak to my doctor today and listen to him and take his advice and keep going

The hot weather really knocks me out - it's really humid today and I am not walking anywhere or catching the bus even - I will get a taxi - but it does make me wonder - does it really help the situation when the pain gets so bad I am not leaving the house for days even though I normally don't have any trouble doing it

It will all work out I am sure - I am really tired right now - being in a lot of pain is tiring - I will be okay - it has been worse in the past - but it's discouraging

I'm okay - I will always be okay

Re: Life can be a Pain

Currently feeling discouraged in regards to work @Owlunar I like having some structure and a plan and I can't do that without a timetable of where I need to be and when. The next couple of days are supposed to be ones I visit some classrooms but I would like to be directed to do that and not simply turn up unannounced on teachers.

Sorry you are in so much pain - it certainly does stop you doing things when you are dealing with pain. I hope it settles for you quickly and you can get out and do the things that you need to do.

Re: Life can be a Pain

Thanks @Zoe7 and @utopia

I saw my doctor and he was very understanding - very pleased with me and gave me strong medication for the pain and suggested I have more on Friday - it is covered by the authority I have from the Health Department and he could see how much pain I was in

It was such a relief - I was able to go to the shops on my way home and get some essentials as well as some extras - I felt really glad to attend to some of these things

And tomorrow I am going to my Philosophy Class in the afternoon - I am looking forward to that - I would not have enjoyed myself much in all the pain I had - how wonderful I felt when it went away -

I like to have some direction in what I am supposed to be doing when I start something different too Zoe - years ago when I was doing emergency work in any kind of accounts I would just turn up to the job and it bookkeeping was always the same - in those books with the marbled pages - the cash books and the journal - I never had much trouble with that - but once it all went into a computer there was the ubiquitious "new software" that could vary from company to company and I remember getting really fed up once - or maybe more than once -

We do need that structure - I understand your feelings of uncertainty but maybe a lot of it is because the principal at your previous school was not a kind person at all - for whatever reason - it makes it harder to deal with stuff in the future and we do want to and need to maintain our dignity

I feel so much better tonight - I have been catching up on things I let go for a few days but I still have to get that new phone - nd make an appointment with my hairdresser - my hair grew a millimetre one night a couple of days ago and reached an unmanageable state -

Try not to feel discouraged tomorrow - after a busy day like today you might find it harder to just walk into a classroom but if that's what you were told to do then that's what you are suppposed to do I think

Really tough one that - we can only do what seems to be right at the given moment and I like to be prepared myself

I will be thinking of you

Re: Life can be a Pain

@Owlunar . Physical pain is so debilitating. So once pain relief kicks in, it feels like heaven.

Hurt my arm early yesterday. Very painful to move. Slightly better today and I'm sure tomorrow it will be fine.

Not sure what I did to the a, but I can be quite violent in my sleep, so somehow must have hurt the muscles during sleep.

Glad to hear you are feeling better and will be off to your philosophy class.
