Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Hi @Owlunar

I hoep you do have a good time in hobart despite feeling edgy and weird. Im not really sure what to say about aging and mh but im glad you have an interest in that and also seen you started a new thread. Hopefully others will get involved and you can all share your thoughts. Your easy to talk to so im sure many convos will come of it.

Its tough being kept away from family, its hard for the carer to determine whats best and can make mistakes too. Hopefully they learn from that though and allow other memebers to vitis more freely.

Your garden sounds lovely, what sort of plants do you have? We have a thread here called 'Self care by growing a garden' maybe you would like to join in on that one?

When it rains there is less to do so thats prob why you post abit more and often more get lonley aroudn that time too. I am very much dreading from the 30 march esp the first week of april then the third week of april is going to be super super hard as thats when the dog inicident was, my nans birthday, the day I tried to save her and also her date of death as well so really tough so I understand about prioritising things and threads and really everyday life. You can take a look at your own will- its called rough time.

Love talking to you anytime :

oh also when i get a bit more time later tonight ill ahve to show you some of my stickers i brought for my scrap book- they reminded me of you- ones solar systems and also cute owls. ill upload a pic to share with you. i

@Bubbles3, my day was relaxing, only doing the bare essentials re blood pressure very high. Dad care takes a full on 5-6hrs day, mornings the busiest. Tomorrow's my 1/2 day off 🙂

When u say Mark is back, is he an alter or voice? Thought i'd cracked today when i thought i heard a woman talking just behind my left ear on & off, get that sometimes, try not to listen cause i oniw its not real... maybe a spirit but i dont have to go there. Distracting none the less. Can u control Mark?

Re: Life can be a Pain

I'm here tonight @Former-Member

Yesterday - mmm yes - I felt pretty hashed about that letter from my aunt - I went to sleep for hours and then last night I had my appointment with Criminal Minds - amazing - I can never really figure out how those teams work because the investigators in these instances are not those who are normally at the last gasp of a crime

But I like it - and Fridays are busy and I don't usually come in on Friday night but tonight I am

Caring for someone with dementia is hard yards but your Dad will be better off - did I read somewhere that you get the unbelievable wealth of $70.00 - is that per week or worse - per fortnight?

Yes - you do need to take care of yourself too - 5 - 6 hours of solid organising every day - I think you are wonderful actually - I know the work is hard and maybe discouraging at times but for as long as you can keep doing it - it is so much better for your Dad - but you need to care for yourself too - it's good for you too

I want to live alone until I am ready for the box - I am into caring for myself - it's a big job for you but the carer needs care too

Personally I have been sorting my head out about my aunt - I think I am being sensible about the whole thing and it is really horrible and isolating for a frail aged person to be over-protected like that - but I can allow my aunt to be herself but I will see my uncle sometime - if not this month - in a couple of months

And it's not easy for me to push myself in either - but I will do whatever I can

If the Friday Feast is on I have had stir-fry I made from scratch - it was wonderful - the pasta I use is called Angel Hair and it's really delicate

Glad to see you Lapses

Myg question is how do you do that.
How do you forgive someone who has hurt you @Owlunar

Hi @Bubbles3

Yes - I have forgiven my mother and my sister for their bad behaviour but not for their sake but rather for my own.

Forgiveness is a hard thing to understand - we are rarely in the mood and I don't know when I figured out that forgiving other people was not for them but for myself - and my mother hurt me a lot - and she spent the last years of her life in a very miserable state and I refused to visit someone who snarled at me

But yes - she was physically violent toward one of my younger siblings and me when we were children and when I started to fight back she turned to emotional abuse and I would not tolerate that and kept away from my family of origin for a long time -

So you question is a very valid question - but hard to answer

So I will tell you a little of my story - after my mother died I was extremely distressed - I had what is called repressed memories - and those memories are memories we have not consciously hidden but something we have buried deep within us and don't know what's there

But hearing people saying wonderful things about my mother during her funeral brought back the past and I thought I would vomit and wanted to run out of the chapel but my sister-in-law and her husband held me down and I cried hard and after the funeral I fainted and was taken off to hospital and a nurse came and spoke to me for a long time about all of this and other things. She was really helpful and they kept me there over-night - it was a General Hospital

So I started to see a therapist and also took myself on an inward journey - I strained my brain remembering everything I could and spoke to my uncles for there memories and also went to the war memorial in Canberra to find out more about my mother's father and this was really interesting - I learned a lot

So I learned the reasons - possibly/probable reasons - and understood - and reasons are not excuses - my mother was really cruel toward me and I really don't know why except I am very intelligent and too spirited for her - and I would not change myself for her - I had an idea of myself - very lucky I think to have other members of my family who loved me

The reason I forgave my mother has nothing to do with her - everything to do with me. I do not want to carry her shit around with me - I am not interested. I saw two different therapists in that time and both moved interstate but the one I have now is very interested in my place in my family and she is helping me a lot

So - it is hard to see past the hurt your family has imposed upon you and I remember when you told me about it some months back - which was incredibly harsh as I remember it - and that is hard to ease the pain of - but this is the important part

Nothing can change what happened to you but we can make the pain easier by easing the anger we have a right to - we can be angry about it - we do not have to excuse the bad behaviour - we need to love the little children we were and let go of as much as we can for our own sake

As for the people who hurt us - they will go on doing whatever and are not interested in forgiveness - it is totally for ourselves

And it does't all happen at once - I have spent years doing it - but it really has worked - I can see what a pitiful and pitiable person my mother was - and she is not me

She has no power over me - the continual acts of forgiveness have set me free - and I have found I feel sorry for her. But I did stop her from hurting me years before she died and refused to see her for my own sake

Everything we do about this is for ourselves Bubbles - not for anyone else

I could probably have written less so I will underline the important parts

Wow @Owlunar. Can i ask how old you are. For you to reach this stage

Re: Life can be a Pain

Yes @Bubbles3 - you can ask - but rather than identify myself if someone I know personally happens to be reading her I will say I am in my 70s

And it all gets easier as I get older - but then - I have aches and pains but really - the understanding that comes with advancing years is not at all bad
