Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

I hope all goes well at the dentist @Owlunar. I cancelled 2 appointments last year with the free dental service. I desperately need my teeth done. Have a few cavities. But I can't tolerate pain when I am depressed. Sounds silly of me, when you are always in pain. But I have a low pain tolerance at the best of times. When depressed, I can't even pluck my eyebrows. So definitely couldn't handle the dentist.
I had been on the wait list for years. Now that my name finally came up last year - I hope I don't have to go to the back of the list again - just because I'm mentally unable to attend.
Oh now I'm getting worried. Need to not think about that.

Hi @utopia

No - you are not silly at all - depression can make pain worse and pain make depression worse and we don't need that kind of cycle

I don't really know about a high tolerance or pain or a low tolerance - how can we know? - pain is a unqiue experience and it doesn't matter at all to me that you say you have trouble with dental pain when I have had major pain and for so long

I get it

You know about the devil you know and orthopaedic problems is my friendly devil I think - there are so many terrible conditions that we are heir too - I know depression can be terrible and I know the years when I had reactive depression were terrible but somehow I went on studying at university part time so yes - I understand - and people can feel really free to say what they want My to about their pain to me - I get it

I had some erosion in one tooth repaired and my few remaining teeth cleaned and scaled - they felt really nice until I ate my stir-fir for dinner - I made it with Angel Hair Spagghetti - that's wonderful

I went to the Travel Agency after the dentist but they were too busy and I had a doctor's appointment but I walked on the beach for a short while then went and got a milk shake and went to the doctor and I had done too much - I keep going to the beach whenever I get the chance and maybe this is one reason I have been getting more done around my garden and getting my triffids under control.

We have had really humid weather here - I am wondering what you have north of here. We took a terrible night - I did sleep and Companion Cat has finally worked out that on a hot night she is better off in her own bed and not sleeping on top of me

Hot, hairy and heavy - she is such delicate little cat but on hot nights who wants hot, heavy and hairy on a humid night? Ahhhhhhh there are worse things

I really hope you can get to see a dentist and have you cavities repaired - it's important - I have lost so many of my teeth due to misadventure I know how important they are but after years of crooked teeth I smiled more easily and I have more confidence because I have my great upper partial with "minor imperfections" and I love them

All the best with that Utopia - your own teeth are vitally important

Re: Life can be a Pain

I saw the rains were heading to Melbourne @Owlunar. We got 5 minutes of rain here. That's it. Just enough to wet the paths.
I know I have a low pain tolerance. My sister is the opposite of me. But I am who I am. It's how I'm made.
Don't your teeth feel lovely after a scale and clean. Did you keep running your tongue over your teeth to feel how smooth they were? Lol.
So glad you are getting to the beach when you can. I think that because yiu kept walking - that's why your knee is healing so well.
Temperature here is cooling down a little. Think I can turn my evaporative cooler off now - but will keep the ceiling fan on all night.
Good night Dec

Hi @Owlunar I just wanted you to know that I've been reading (& liking as acknowledgement) your posts - even though I haven't been able to reply.

Thanks for your thoughtful insights, & for keeping us up to date on how things are for you.

Hi @utopia

It's great here today - a bit cloudy but the sun is breaking through

My teeth felt fantastic after being scaled yesterday - I love the feeling but getting them scaled - ah - that was a different thing altogether - having the dentist in there with his little pick was a bit tricky

btw - I love some stories about my son - so - when he was about 3 I took him to the dentist while I had my teeth scaled so he could watch.

He was very serious and when the dentist asked him how he felt watching this he said

"I'm not going to weet the eedle"

The dentist asked me to translate which was hard because I had a mouthful of instruments but when I had the chance I said

"He's not going to eat the needle"

That dentist was an old man - a bit younger than am now - and he asked me what that meant

Again I had to wait until my mouth was free and then I said

"He's not going to let you stick those pointy things in HIS mouth"

I told me dentist this story yesterday and he didn't need a translation but then - he has kids of his own

It was great going to the beach again yesterday - it was so humid in Melbourne it was humid on the beach too - it would have been great to swim but I am not up for that now. The water looked inviting

How long has it been since my knee has stopped me from walking that extra bit when I am out to go to the beach - I love it there and I was in Mordialloc yesterday so a walk to the beach was happening - but did I sweat afterwards - I think everyone was - it was not a good day and it rained during the night - I woke up a few times to hear it pouring. I left the A/C on all night though - I don't have a fan - I could use a fan I think - but it was cooler and I slept late today

Walking is my thing - I love walking - I am sure things heal better when we exercise in a way we enjoy

Hi @Adge

Thanks for letting me know - it is always good to get feedback -

Sometimes I find I can say much to a thread or a post or even to a person - but thanks for your appreciation of my thoughtful insights

I have lots of time - more than most people - I don't have any trouble filling it in but I do have time to think - and getting really into a subject is one way of helping me to deal with my chronic pain.

Some people might cool it thinking, or meditation, prayer or even day-dreaming but whatever it is - it works for me

I hope you have the best day possible Adge and that your work isn't too hard right now

Re: Life can be a Pain

Kids are so smart and logical, aren't they @Owlunar. I laughed at your sons story. A beautiful funny memory.
We had rain here overnight. The ground is wet. The air is cool. I'm cold. Lol. A weird feeling to be cold after an almost 3 week heatwave.
My mum and I and his gf are picking my son up from the airport at 6 tonight. I can't wait to see him. But I'm getting really anxious and nervous. I don't know why. But the feeling is growing stronger. I'm thinking it would be better if I stayed home and mum can bring him here.
I'm feeling teary but I can't cry. I don't know what to do. I'm very tired
