Something’s not right

Just feeling very alone right now

Just feeling very alone right now

Hi,

I am super struggling right now. It’s ok, I know it is just a wave and I know it will pass, but it HURTS. I feel super alone and super hopeless. I had my fifth session with my new psychologist yesterday and we are still struggling to figure out the boundary stuff. Specifically, we can’t figure out what the heck I’m supposed to do when I get a giant wave of suicidal ideation. My psychologist says she isn’t available to be someone for me to call in a crisis…and I don’t have anyone else. We have talked about how the crisis lines (lifeline and the suicide callback service) usually hang up on me and on the occasions that they don’t hang up on me they usually say dumb-arse stuff that escalates the situation. We have also talked about how a lot of my trauma issues are related to my experiences in the public mental health system. Yesterday in our session, my psychologist simply mentioned “go to the hospital” and I dropped to the floor, crawled under her desk and started doing the whole headbanging and making weird noises thing that I do when I get super flooded with giant feelings. This was towards the end of the session and I couldn’t get properly emotionally regulated before it was time for her to boot me out of her office. Thus I left my psychologist’s office feeling about a thousand times worse than when I went in. And now I feel alone, abandoned and afraid as I look down the barrel of an entire week without anyone to talk through the giant feelings with.

I asked my psychologist what her other suicidal clients do when they are in crisis, and she said they generally have friends and family that they know they can call, and then as a last resort they will go to the hospital (that was when I got triggered). So…given I don’t have “friends and family,” I feel like I’m totally screwed. I’m feeling hopeless because I don’t have that support, but I’m also feeling muddled because in my past failed attempts at friendship, when I’ve tried to ask friends for help the response has been that this stuff wasn’t friend stuff and I really needed professional support. So what I’m hearing is that the professionals palm it off to friends and family, the friends and family pass it back to the professionals, and the client sits in the middle desperately asking for help and being ignored from every angle.

I feel utterly hopeless. I really like my new psychologist. After my hideous twelve months of therapist shopping and my eight failed attempts, I know she is the right match. I super like the fact that she is open to SOME between session contact – I am amazed at how many therapists refuse any! Our rules are that I can send her one email a week, which can be as long as I want and she will acknowledge it, and I can send two voice messages, which can be a maximum of three minutes each. This works well for me in terms of generally feeling connected and not abandoned all week. However, my psychologist was saying yesterday that I can’t use these communication methods to reach out to her if I am in extreme crisis. She said that right now she doesn’t know the answer to this problem and she acknowledged that it definitely is a big problem. She said she will think about it over the coming week. I do super like her, I’m just feeling hopeless about whether one can really do intensive trauma-related work without support beyond the 50 minute therapy session. I actually felt pretty good going into the session yesterday and it just doesn’t seem right that I came out feeling so awful…and that as a result of what transpired in the session I’m sitting here at 5am working hard not to SH.

Well thanks for listening. Sorry it got kind-of long. I'm really glad I discovered the forums .

hello @Appleblossom @Phoenix_Rising

people reaching out on here amidst so many others

each and everyone of us with our own pain and life experiences

still we are here, still we open up so that we can continue to question

still we respond when we read of another's pain even though we are holding our own

still we react, it is self preservation sometimes an automatic reaction

none of us mean harm, further pain

purely and simply to have a sense of arms stretched out to hold and support

we are here when we can be

thinking of you both, be gentle with yourselves xxxx

@Former-Member Thank you mohill, that is very sweet. All is well. As I said in my other post, I know I am hypersensitive and that therefore pretty much anything can trigger my big feelings. Thus I accept that I engage with people at my own risk. Hopefully @Appleblossom is feeling as ok about yesterday's hiccup as I am. As predicted, the sun still rose this morning, the earth is still turning on its axis and the Universe didn't explode...so all in all I think that's a pretty good outcome

hello @Faith-and-Hope @Phoenix_Rising @Matt12 @Appleblossom @CherryBomb

I love walking it rescues me from my mind. I also love swimming, love anything wet, waves, sand I am in heaven.

I hated sport, when we lived overseas they used to have gymnastics with that dreadful wooden horse. How I hated that monstrosity. I didnt know about anxiety then - back in the old days it was not a term used very often. These days I think the opposite has happened it is overused.

So I would be very unwell around the time that gymnastics started and managed to miss most classes. I certainly avoided the monstrous wooden horse.

Then we had hockey; all lined up ready to have a hit or whatever the terminology is. I was two persons back in the line ready for the bat when whoever was up batting swung back straight into the head of the person in front of me. A very large egg shape appeared on her forehead. Needless to say I never practised or played hockey again.

Swimming lessons fine loved walking down the steps into the water or lowering myself in the shallow end. jumping in or diving just was not going to happen.

So although I did not realise at the time, I was very artful at getting out of sport. Interestingly enough I love art! Love art, music, drama, literature etc etc etc.

hello @Phoenix_Rising @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom

yes I was the same, was even frightened of art and sport.

I did well in english, maths, languages, chemistry hated physics.

now I love and appreciate art and am only now in my 60's feeling comfortable enough to try my hand at art.

never too late xxx

Are you on a notebook, iPad or PC ? If so, the Reply box has toolbar across the top. The rectangle icon with a "mountain" and a "sun" in it (teeny-tiny) is the one for posting images .... just click on it and follow the prompts.

Oh me too @Former-Member! Swimming was the only sport I was any good at and I really loved it - still do, but don't do it as much now. I also love anything wet - the ocean, a river, whatever, it all makes me feel calm. I have a lot of "soundscape" cds with streams, flowing water, crashing waves etc. Yep, anything to do with water helps me to feel calm
