Long term GP leaving

Long term GP leaving

I haven't been here for a while but have been absolutely floored today receiving a letter my long term GP, who has been through so much with me, held me up, kept me going and pretty much helped me survive some of the worst times of my life, is leaving next week. To make it so much worse - she has not told me directly and I will not see her before she leaves. As could be expected - I am both disappointed with how this has occurred as well as 'what do I do now'? I really would have expected more from her - especially letting me know personally. It is going to be a very long, difficult weekend. Thankfully I see my psych on Monday 😢

Oh hun @Zoe7 .

I'm so so so sorry to hear this. I recognise the impact that this GP leaving has and will have on you. Is it retirement, or is she just moving on? I wonder if she will be open to telehealth consults or something?

I know first hand how hard it is to lose a therapist/dr that you have had a long term therapeutic relationship with. I can see why you would have all these questions.

Please hang in there. Sitting with you.

Re: Long term GP leaving

She is moving into a different role elsewhere @tyme so will not be seeing any patients directly anymore. I knew she was not happy where she was working and she had discussed with me that she thought she would look elsewhere in 18 months or so - so I am not surprised she is leaving ...but the way it has happened (and so soon) is devastating. I really do not know what I am going to do now 😢 They are having a new female doctor start next month but I just cannot see starting new with someone else right now. The biggest disappointment is she has not told me nor will I see her before she goes ...it certainly would have been good to 'hand over' to someone else. Completely gutted right now.

Re: Long term GP leaving

Absolutely @Zoe7 . A warm handover is always helpful.

I wonder if the situation was something out of her control? Who knows?

I guess the main thing is, where to from here?

I hear you and I know it hurts. I'm glad they had the decency to inform you though. I've had some who just 'disappeared'....

No it wasn't out of her control @tyme She has a new role (I know where and what but won't put it here). The biggest disappointment is she contacts me with different things outside of her work but did not tell me this ...I suppose that shows were she is at and the relationship we had was not what I thought it was. That is disappointing ...and to be honest, I am pretty angry that I both thought it was something other than what it was and also I let her in so much. Brings me right back to not trusting anyone again - which is a horrible place to be again.

Hugs @Zoe7 . That's so so hard, especially if you know it was IN her control. I can see why you are floored... and angry. I reckon I would be too.

Really grateful I have an appointment with my psych on Monday but already thinking I won't be able to go to work before that @tyme ...but no GP to see to get a medical certificate so stuck!

Gee @Zoe7

That is really hard blow - I totally understand - and am sorry you have to go through all this - esp this weekend

I really get it - I learned yesterday that my dentist is cutting back his days in preparation for retirement - I Have a dental phobia

But he is preparing a dentist to take over when he does

So that is easier - having someone pull the plug sharply like that doesn't give you time to find someone understanding

I really hear you

Re: Long term GP leaving

@tyme @Owlunar2 @outlander I have had to have today off work before I see my psych. I just could not face the kids today feeling like this. Not sure what I will do from today but we have parent meetings all week so I have to find a way to go back tomorrow.
