Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx it's true the panic motivates ADHD brains. They say it's common for ADHD brains to struggle with sleep, probably because our active minds makes it harder to go to sleep and stay asleep. I don't know about you, I am super sensitive to morning light, sleeping in is very difficult for me. I hope your hormonal symptoms ease up for you. I am about to start my period soon, it sucks the energy out of you.

I've been reflecting. Do you think certain cultures may encourage social anxiety? There is the concept of protecting their own individual and family honour

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer you should see... my room has blackout curtains, towels up across any gaps, and every single little electronic light is covered.... 😅 Yes I believe once again, we are very similar!!

That's a good question!! Hmm well let's break it down.

Social anxiety I'd argue is a more biological process - we are wired to want to belong, to behave in the ways that our social group finds acceptable so that we don't get booted to die alone in the wilds.

However, it would make sense that this biological wiring could have influenced the way culutures develop! What do you think?

@Jynx evening light disrupts my sleep, hence I wear those geeky red blue light blocking glasses.

It is possible that the biological need for connection has affected culture. But I hate caring about the not so good opinions of others. I know sometimes factors like envy can come in. I feel like I constantly have to protect myself with how I’m being perceived

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer heck yeah, geeky solutions!! We love it!!

Hmmm... you know, I wonder if the reason I am able to care so little about the opinions of most is because I have a small group of people about whose opinions I care IMMENSELY (my friends, family, and colleagues). I know you've got that too but I get the sense that you don't necessarily feel like you truly belong. So there's a possibility that you might not stay with those groups, so you also have to continually assess the potential of finding connection and belonging with the majority of folks around you outside of your current social group.

Does that make sense? And also please do tell me if I am wrong!! I know it's assumptive of me to make claims about your emotional experiences!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx maybe I don’t have many people in my inner circle who I can truly be myself with. I do have to change the perception that my honour is based off how other people see me. Maybe I’m basing too much of my self worth on other opinions, but I can’t help it. It’s hard not to. I carry a lot of internalised stigma

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer aye perhaps your honour is something that you can give an empowered definition to - like 'it is about how you choose to give thanks to god, and how you act with kindness and empathy to those around you, that makes you an honourable person'!!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I think you’re right, the definition needs to be reconstructed. It might be contributing to the stuck feeling.

Maybe this is a common experience. I sometimes get repetitive thoughts, my brain keeps thinking “X happened” over and over again. I want to find a way to put the brakes, but the thoughts keep repeating themselves over and over again. I experience this everyday when I wake up, and at different points during the day

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer I think it's an ND thing? Maybe but could also look into OCD.

But yeah I've had phrases that won't leave my brain alone. For like a year, I'd have at various points of my day the phrase 'WU TANG CLAN AIN'T NOTHING TO F%$K WITH' pop into my head... I've never listened to Wu Tang Clan in my life 🤣

Sometimes it helps to try to replace the not so fun ones with better ones. That's where mantras and chanting and affirmations can come in! Ooh or prayer?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I think there is an overlap between ND and OCD. I think many NDs have OCD traits. My supervisor on placement said that OCD is common among those with ADHD, perfectionism really can get to someone. It can drive procrastination.

The brain is weird, it likes repeating certain thoughts over and over again. Maybe it’ll get easier once new pathways are created. Sometimes it is harder than others. I got a caffeine withdrawal while out, my bad for not taking matcha with me. I was only able to get green tea which isn’t as effective, now I’m pretty much exhausted and burnt out. Feeling sort of headachy. Shopping centre lights are another thing and the noise. Sensory overload.

I did find something I liked but it was too expensive so I didn’t get it, probably don’t need it anyways.

I hope your weekend is going okay 💖

I feel like I’ve lost trust in this world. I’m scared of being hurt again. I realise not all men objectify women. But I’m tired of being objectified while existing as a woman
