How are you?

I've been struggling a bit over the past ten days or so. One of my bosses was trying to help me and during the conversation implied that I wasn't doing my job properly. She talked to me in a very condescending way. I care about my work, and hearing this has made my mood plummet, especially because I don't fall valued. My effort has not been recognised.

It would have been bad enough if I was just like everyone else - neurotypical. To be fighting to remain well everyday takes so much work and to be taken for granted is extremely discouraging!

Oh no @Spirit_Healer ! I'm sorry this happened. We all know how much you care about your work.

Do you think you'll have a follow up conversation with them about how you felt? Or even to gain clarity?

I can imagine how much that conversation would've made you feel like a tonne of bricks was weighing you down.

I've been in that space where I haven't felt valued at work, and haven't felt like the work I do is seen or acknowledged. It's a hard and frustrating place to be in.

I'm sorry you've been struggling a bit, it sounds very tough. What happened with one of your bosses sounds horrible and I'm sorry that you were treated that way, you didn't deserve it.

@tyme I'm not ready to face her again yet. Even seeing her at a distance made me anxious and walk away quicker.

I got some clarity elsewhere, though. This boss had raised some arguments that went against my training at uni and placements. Straight after, I talked with my aide, who I was accused of not 'using' correctly. My aide disagreed with my boss. Later, she asked for clarification from her boss and we were vindicated, to some extent. The aide's boss even went so far to explain her behaviour, saying that my boss was new to her role.

Argh.... @Spirit_Healer . That's so sad. It's like picking on little things and not seeing the bigger picture.

There is a fair bit of research around how to 'use' teacher aides more effectively in classrooms. I think a lot of teachers might rely too much on them, to the detriment of the students and staff. But each case is different.

If you ever get to visit a specialist setting, you'll see how aids and teachers work together. It's amazing. They work hand in hand to the point that you barely know who is the teacher and who is the aide.

Oh well. There's a lot to learn.

I hope this doesn't make you lose confidence. I know how much you love yoru role and I know how far you have come.
