Needing support

Needing support

Trigger warning

So after having so many bad experiences with a crisis service I reached out today as a last ditch effort as i was about to act on my thoughts.

I've spent the last 2 hours talking to one person who actually listened to everything I had to say and how i was feeling and who supported me the entire time. This I needed today, when I felt so close to the edge even throughout the chat when I was so close to acting on my thoughts, this person stayed with me and just listened and made me see things in a different way.

This person went above and beyond to support me any way they could, they kept me talking even when I wanted to just end the chat and so badly wanted to end it all. They searched for services to help me knowing that I've reached out to so many and been rejected and let down but they found some that I haven't tried so maybe there's support through some of those when I can make contact.

I know I'm by no means out of danger right now with the way my thoughts have been but it's that tiny glimmer of hope, that tiny flicker of light in the darkness that I'm trying so hard to cling to, to hopefully get me through this.

Right now I'm an emotional wreck and my brain just feels like complete mush. Today I need TLC except I'm not so good at showing myself any compassion or kindness. I'm open to any ideas on how I can learn to do this, how can I change my thinking and train myself to accept myself and show myself some love. The trauma part of me just straight away goes into defence mode and then the fight and flight mode kicks in. I want to be able to show myself some kindness cos deep down there's a part of me that knows I don't deserve to hurt this much. Years of trauma and abuse has made it impossible to love myself so much so that I feel physically sick when I see myself in a mirror.

I need words of wisdom, I need advice, I need strength, I need support, I need love and compassion. But most of all I need to know how to accept myself.

Re: Needing support

Oh it's beautiful @Former-Member I saved that one!! Might have to print it out my own self.

Aye, sometimes I will put my little exercise counter on on my smart watch when I'm pacing.... might as well right? It's like, hey even if I'm stressed to heck, maybe I'll be able to squeeze some dopamine out of it when it goes 'PING you reached your daily goal' 😅

Maybe you could just go open the front door, take a step outside and see how you feel? I imagine being in the garden would be helpful, our brains like greenery. They like safety moreso of course lol but idk maybe some grass between the toes could be grounding 😚

@Jynx I've already done steps today 😂 [edited by moderator] And I've already reached my weekly goal cos of my heart rate sitting at 140bpm for most of the day.

I stood at my front door and freaked out so nope I'm not facing the outside world today 😂.

TW: sexual and/or physical abuse

@Jynx well I went outside and it was a big mistake 😞. Of course one of the people that does this to me drove past and took advantage of the opportunity. I don't know whether to even bother calling police again, I don't feel it's even worth it cos they just don't care.

@Former-Member oh gosh I'm so sorry hun I didn't know that was a possibility or I wouldn't have suggested it!! That's so rough, sent right back to the crisis-zone in your system I imagine. Aye it sounds like calling police is its own distress too, tough decision. I'm here with you, not sure what I can do to help but I'm sitting with ya 💜

Re: Needing support

@Jynx it's OK, you didn't know. It's always a risk for me unfortunately. And yep I'm right back to where I started if not worse. I'm about to throw myself into bed to just breakdown 😭.

Re: Needing support

TY for saying @Former-Member, means a lot. Just as a side note, I wanted to say I really admire your compassion, it's a great quality that you demonstrate in spades.

Anyway, honestly a bedtime breakdown sounds like it might be needed hey, purge some of the emotional energy outta the system. Never a fun time but it might help.

Re: Needing support

gosh i'm so sorry to hear that this happened @Former-Member you don't deserve to be treated in that way, and it really sucks that perpetrators like that exist so close to you. i wish i could do more to help as well but know that you're not alone here. we're here right with you 💗

Re: Needing support

@rav3n i hate having to go through this time and time again. I hate that noone can or will help, I've tried to make it stop happening, I've been trying to stand up for myself but it only ends up worse for me. I just can't do it myself but not one of the people or places that I've reached out to will help me to stop it.

Thankyou, I'm so grateful to have this community here cos right now it means everything to me.

Re: Needing support

@Jynx i always try to show compassion to others as it's something I've been so very deprived of and yet it's something that as humans we need the most.

The worst part is that I'm numb, I can't cry, like it's all built up inside but I can't let it out.

Re: Needing support

i hear how tiring it's been @Former-Member and the important part is that you have and you still are trying. i know it might not sound like much, but it really does show a great deal of strength to even give things a go and to stand up for yourself. it really sucks that people/services haven't been able to support you appropriately, but please don't let this stop you from reaching out or feeling like you don't deserve support - because you ABSOLUTELY do deserve to be heard, understood and cared for.

it sounded like the person you spoke to a few days ago, the one who sat with you and listened, and helped find other resources - really got you. is she someone you can reach out to for support again?
