SC SH thoughts

SC SH thoughts

Every morning I leave home and wonder if I have the strength to go through another day.

I've made it so far, surely I can make it again?

Will it ever get easier, more predictable or will I be able to accept myself as I am?

Re: SC SH thoughts

I think it is natural to reflect on our pasts.

It is how we make sense of the world, it is what being human is about.

Though I have to be careful not to be pulled back into old unhelpful thought patterns ...and @utopia 's mentioned the fear of it escalating.

but part of the way we move on is to acknowledge the stuff ... isnt that the theory.

I dont think SH is a question of good or bad ..

maybe your practitioners need more skills in the area .. dont take that on as your lack.

What you posted sounds reasonable to me. @Former-Member

Re: SC SH thoughts

Hi @Former-Member.

Your last post reminded me of something I hadn't thought about for a while. I had one very obvious scar from SH when I was younger. As an adult I wanted to hide it and decided to get a tattoo over it. I chose something that represented freedom (from all the bad I guess). I was determined to have it tattooed completely over. When I went to get it done the big, tough tattooist told me he didn't really like the idea of me covering it up because it was part of who I was and what I had been through (or been able to live through). He knew nothing of my life - just that I had a scar. Anyway, he did a beautiful tattoo that is carefully placed so my scar isnt covered but so I have to choose to see it. I love it.

I can't answer whether it is "good" to think of SH in a creative way, although I would creative thinking is rarely 'bad'. I wanted to share my story with you in the hope that you wouldn't feel alone in thinking this way though. I wish I had some other coping skills when I did what I did, but I also know now that at the time it's what I thought would help and I no longer feel shame or embarrassment when I see my scar.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. For what its worth, you've reminded me of something pretty special tonight. I hope you find some answers to your questions that feel good for you soon.

Hi @Former-Member @utopia @Appleblossom @Former-Member

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

I was thinking this morning to work on a tattoo instead, working with some symbols for me and perhaps instead of leaving a scar on my body adding to the tattoo when I reach a low milestone.

Re: SC SH thoughts

That seems like a fantastic idea @Former-Member

I haven't read any other posts on this thread - so I don't know how this has come about - but it does seem to be a positive idea.

Re: SC SH thoughts

@Former-Member. I do not have physical scars. I have emotional scars. And I have booked in with a wonderful tattoo artist next month - to get my first tattoo. It is in celebration of healing my 'scars' & starting a new healthier journey.
So I love your idea.

Re: SC SH thoughts

I'm planing on getting my scars tattooed over. I've heard a lot of people who do it to prove and celebrate coming over something.

Me I just want to hide the evidence. But be careful when tattooing over scars because they can reopen and the ink might not take well. You need a really god artist and spend good money.

Re: SC SH thoughts

Sounds really great @Former-Member 🙂

I was thinking about this a bit more last night. You could always use something like henna to draw on yourself in a creative way too. Maybe it could be like making a connection with your body in a healing way, or a positive mind/body/soul kind of thing. I saw some henna cones in an Indian grocer the other day. Best of luck with it all

Re: SC SH thoughts

henna is a much more natural product, though it doesnt last. @Former-Member

I had a student whose mother would do her hands ... Indian and intricate in style .. but you could do what you want.

I know when I started to rub cream into my hands instead of bite them I grew my nails ...
