SC SH thoughts

SC SH thoughts

Every morning I leave home and wonder if I have the strength to go through another day.

I've made it so far, surely I can make it again?

Will it ever get easier, more predictable or will I be able to accept myself as I am?

Re: SC SH thoughts

Hi @Former-Member
I do understand what you're saying. It's a daily struggle.
As to whether does it get any easier - to be honest I don't know. I have my ups and downs. I have some good days and then really bad days. I guess for me I need to learn to accept that this is me.
You are strong @Former-Member. I believe you can get through each day.
Thinking of you ❤️Xx

Re: SC SH thoughts

Hello @Former-Member,

Sorry you are currently feeling like you are struggling to get through the day, that sounds really hard.

I think what you wrote "I've made it so far, surely I can make it again?" is a really helpful thing to focus on, that shows so much strength and resilience. Maybe it's about focusing on some of those positive and more helpful qualities that you have at the moment which might make things easier during the day, just take one day at a time

I hope one day we will just feel free and good in our own skin.

Re: SC SH thoughts

@Former-Member. Hello. Yes, I believe tgere will be a time when you will have far more 'up' days than 'down'. But you have suffered a big shock last year - so it will take time. As @Former-Member says - keep focusing on the positives that come your way. And keep telling yourself that you have made it this far.
You will get there.

I would really like to know what gets me in the position of feeling suicidal or feeling like hurting myself. I don't understand the concept. I've been told that there is an underlying emotion if I am angry, and I should try to identify that. Is that the same with suicidal and self harm thoughts? Do I have to find out what the underlying cause is?

Re: SC SH thoughts

@Former-Member. Yes, I remember my psychologist teaching me this last year. Your anger or fear or sadness have a reason. And it is a great part of therapy to learn to identify what they mean. It really does help lead you forward to living a better life - to healing.
However, there are times when it's not good to look at what these issues are. When you are suicidal - it's hard to think logically or rationally. So maybe you need to be out of that crisis danger - before you do the exercise.
I know for myself - I need to have someone nearby when I did this exercise. Not necessarily in my house - but someone I could call up and who would come over - if the emotions became too much.
It was too scary for me to do this exercise without knowing help was on hand - if I needed it. I didn't always need it.
Suicidal thoughts - for me anyway - seem to be more the end result - of holding it all in - of trying to smile and pretend I'm okay - of depression - of not dealing with my underlying issues.
Does that make sense to you?

Re: SC SH thoughts

Hi @Former-Member,

i think I feel a bit like @utopia. For me the suicidal thoughts come from total overwhelm and hopelessness. From not being able to see that it will ever get better, that you will always feel like this so what's the point of living. The SH comes from strong emotions that I can't cope with like internal anger mostly or from the feeling of overwhelm.

Ive only been living with this for about 4 years and it hasn't got better but the understanding of it does help. As @utopia said I think it's maybe helpful to document it when you are bad but then only work through it better when you are through the wave of it. It's impossible in the height of the wave to work too much out. I'm only just learning that in the past month myself

i hope this helps. Thinking of you and sending hugs 💜🤗💐

Re: SC SH thoughts

Thank you @Former-Member. I didn't want to comment on the SH - because I have no experience of it. But I do know about suicidal thoughts and depression and anxiety and PTSD that cripples you.
@Former-Member. I hope that this may be something that you could also speak to your therapist about.

Re: SC SH thoughts

Hi @Former-Member

We haven't spoken before, but your post really spoke to me. I too have been having a difficult time, and the last few days have been a particular struggle. I'm not sure about you, but I tend to isolate myself when I feel like this. I'm really glad you connected with the forums tonight. I can't answer your question about whether it gets easier, but I hope that we can get push through it together. If we all keep pushing maybe one day we will get lucky and end up on the other side of mental health.

Sending you love. X
