Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 exactly. I've been hurt so many times so whenever something good happens I just shut down and wait for the bad that usually follows.

The real question is will I ever get it back?

@Former-Member

Why was the snowman looking through a bag of carrots?

Im assuming its something to do with his nose. He was looking for his nose? Although thats not funny at all! Blowing his nose makes no sense. Oh okay, im an idiot! He was picking his nose!

Well, that took me far longer than it should have 😁

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 seriously trying to contain my laughter so I don't wake everyone up right now. Yes he was picking his nose. Such an old classic joke but such a funny one. 🤣

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member I think thats a very typical flight/fight/freeze/fawn reflex to past trauma. I probably fall more intp the fawn and freeze styles. Its difficult to overcome, but its definitely possible, it just takes time. It took me more than 50 years to start to change it and it took the worst time of my life to even startcworking on it. Maybe this is your moment of change. How many people did you have supporting you a month ago? How many now? I know it would be nicer to have more in-person support around, but your only at the beginning.

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member Okay here's a Christmas joke for you. Ive given up trying to stump you, so this is one that diesnt require an answer.

As I was paying the cashier for my Christmas tree, he asked, “Are you going to put that up yourself?”

I said, “No, I’m putting it up in the living room.”

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 I'm definitely fight or flight style.

Maybe it is. Yes it would be nice to have in-person support in a way but at the same time I struggle with being around people. So at the moment having this is really what I need. Knowing that I can come here to chat and get support when I need it and to not feel so alone in what I'm going through. It really helps.

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member I started the same way, online people. I still struggle around people face to face, but after being around supportive people online far a lot of last year, I do feel im better able to cope around people now. Im still crap at it... but better!

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 who knows maybe one day I'll be OK around people but for the moment I've got here and that's enough. I'm glad that you have gotten better at it. How did the visit go today, well yesterday technically now.
