I'm glad you have shared that @Former-Member . I agree about them being unappreciated. I'm thinking of those in the public system especially. They are run off their feet. Yet they do their best.
I've had incredible support over many years by my entire treating team in the public system. The private system refused to take me because I was too 'high risk'. I'm glad the public system took me up and got me back on my feet.

Re: Life and trauma
@tyme I've only ever been in the public system and they have mostly been amazing. The one time recently I had an appointment with a private cardiologist who just shrugged it all off and said you're too young to have heart issues and to get it checked again in 5 years time. I'm so glad you got support through the public system aswell. It's scary enough going through things like this without feeling unsupported on top of it.

Re: Life and trauma
@Former-Member Yes, this friend of mine has had everything possible looked at over the past 4 years, as they really didn't want to insert a pacemaker at her age, but eventually there was just no other option to keep her heart in some sort of rhythm. She's doing a lot better but still struggles a lot.
I know it's hard, but try not to let other people get to you too much. Whether they know what you're dealing with or not, a little empathy and understanding goes a long way. But sadly so does cruelty, insensitivity and having no consideration for others. So just try not to let the failures of others weigh on you.
Hopefully that sleep comes quickly tonight for you.

Re: Life and trauma
@Former-Member @tyme I had my surgery and follow up treatments the past couple of years through the public system. Is it perfect, nope! But the nurses were all amazing. I'm not sure i've ever felt more cared for in my life than I did with all of them. In my experience, they are just incredibly caring people.

That's really amazing to hear @MJG017 . We often read of people's 'terrible' experiences in 'the system', yet I have found it to be amazing. At least we can agree on that here @MJG017 @Former-Member

Re: Life and trauma
@MJG017 i know it's a last resort at such a young age but if it makes her life a bit better then it's definitely worth it.
It hurts more when people know but just don't care or in my case try to compete and make it so they have it worse. It's hit that point of day where I'm starting to struggle which really sucks.

Re: Life and trauma
@MJG017 i completely agree. I had surgery several years ago now through the public system and I was looked after so well.

I didn’t subscribe to this thread so I am way behind. I don’t know if I should read everything or just jump back in. Just letting you know that I am still here for you.
