Study Group

  • @MJG017 @tyme @Jynx @rav3n @Ru-bee

Hi guys,

Looking for all those that are intending to study in 2025 to complete the cert IV Mental Health Peer Work.

This is a space for our study group, where we can discuss what we are studying and hopefully get some input from current Sane Peer support workers.

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

Yeah, it does cost a bit @Blackcloud— which is a shame. But I know they have subsidised spots for concession cardholders (given the cost I'm assuming is just a partial subsidy, which is better than nothing but still really difficult for people on a low income).

Thank you, @Appleblossom! It feels good to be back.

Aw true, that's good to know that all SANE peer workers have completed the IPS training @tyme and yes it has been way too long since we connected, so it's lovely to now.

Enjoy your break @Oaktree! Do you have any plans?

I hope that you are all well 😊

So you intend to complete IPS then @defaultusername ? How long does it take? I think back then it was a few months to a year.... I can't quite remember.

Hey guys, it has been a while since anyone has posted here. How is everyone going with their studies? I am still keeping on. I am doing really well but I have definitely had moments in each term where I wanted to quit. It's been a challenge getting through those periods. I have had a lot of support from my psychologist. I am going to give her a copy of my certificate when I finish because I figure that she has earnt it too.

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

I only JUST revisited my course which I started a few years ago. I'm further along than I expected which is exciting!

I hope to start tackling it again very soon! @Oaktree

Hi @Oaktree how are you going with the certificate course? You almost finishing it? 🙂

I’m considering on switching my degree from psychology to social science (major in counselling), even though I’m only in my very first trimester into the bachelor’s degree but all the psychology units have exams which I detest so I’m changing to social science (counselling) since the counselling major (and bachelor of counselling itself) don’t have exams. 🙂

Sadly I have an exam this upcoming Friday for psychology so I’m not looking forward to that haha 😅

@Blackcloud

Good luck for the upcoming exam. I don’t have long to go on my certificate now. Just four more weeks at Tafe then just need to finish my prac hours. I have already completed 50 of the 80 hours. Officially we finish on the 5th of December. Funnily enough I talked to my psychologist last week about the possibility of me doing a counselling course.

Forgot to mention a while ago that I’m about to start the Intentional Peer Support training course next month, which is basically next week! I’m looking forward to it!!

@Blackcloud

Good for you. How long is the IPS course?

In response to: Re: 2025 - Study Group!

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

@Oaktreeit goes for 5 weeks in total, and the classes go for twice a week within those 5 weeks - Monday and Wednesday from 9am to 1pm.

By the way, have you got into doing placements for your certificate course yet? or are you going to find and do the placements after you finish studying the cert? 😊

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

@Oaktree @Sorry, I just read your post from last time and saw that you’ve already completed the placement. How was the placement overall so far? Did you get to talk to clients of all ages within the placements, or did you had to talk to those that are of a certain age group? (E.g. only young people)
