Study Group

Hi guys,

Looking for all those that are intending to study in 2025 to complete the cert IV Mental Health Peer Work.

This is a space for our study group, where we can discuss what we are studying and hopefully get some input from current Sane Peer support workers.

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

Welcome back @defaultusername

How is your course going? Have you just started this last term too? I am really pleased and relieved to have the first term pretty much behind me. We just have to make it to the 12th April and then we have 2 weeks off.

Congrats @Oaktree !

What did you find was the most helpful as part of your course so far?

Hey @Oaktree @Blackcloud @defaultusername @Shaz51 @MJG017 and others following,

Here is an example of a Community Builder job on the forums (Peer work): https://www.seek.com.au/job/83024669?ref=cm-ui

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

Hey @tyme

I would love to apply! but it seems that according to the requirements, it requires a bachelor’s degree in psychology/social work/mental health or a related field which I haven’t done nor obtained..

However, I’ve had prior experience with volunteering (not working) as a community builder in another mental health forums but that only lasted for about a bit over a year - so it seems that I wouldn’t be qualified for that either. oh well.. 🙃

Though I’m looking forward to my training soon for this volunteer role I’ve just applied for a few days ago, which is the crisis supporter role at a crisis support service.

I guess my idea of sharing is so that you know what's 'out there' @Blackcloud and if it's something you are interested in, then it helps you know what you need to work towards.

Hope you have been well. I've missed you! We can join the Sunday chat tonight.

@tyme I'm not sure if I'm able to join the tonight's chat. But if I'm able to otherwise, then I'll definitely be there! 🙂

Amazing @Shaz51 ! Your experience is invaluable. Would you consider a Peer Work Cert in the future?

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

@tyme

I really couldn’t say what the most helpful part of my course has been so far but I am enjoying the learning experience. The role plays have definitely been the most stressful part. I am just really glad that I have stuck in there and have made it basically through term 1. Also I saw the community builder ad when Rachel put it up on her Linkedin. I am also not really qualified and I live in the wrong place. When I have my certificate I will still apply and see how I go.
