Welcome and getting started

New to BPD

New to BPD

I joined this group seeking help. I have been dealing with severe Mental health concerns for a few years. I have not been able to find the support I need due to insurance and cost limitations. My last psychiatrist spoke to me about bpd but I am no longer seeing her. Ever since then I have been researching bpd and am 99% percent sure I have it, but I have not really been with a therapist long enough to get the diagnosis. I been experiencing symptoms of BPD for many years now that I look back and have a decent understanding. I have been experiencing increased symptoms the past month and have made observations that just confirm bpd even further. I am here because I don't know where to go from here?

Try not to be too hard on yourself for doomscrolling @Cleo2 - not only are social media algorithms specifically designed to keep us in it and scrolling, but they also prey on the fact that humans tend to pay more attention to negative stimuli (purely because we're wired to notice things that could potentially be a threat to our safety). Found this lil article about it if you wanna read up on it a little more.

Something I've found helpful is to purposefully seek out wholesomeness and mood-boosting content. You kinda have to...take control of the algorithm! The more you actively seek out positive content, the more the algorithm will learn that that is what you want!

On the flipside, I think there's nothing wrong with a bit of morbid curiosity. I think embracing the dark parts of life helps us to appreciate the light more. It's all about balance though - if you find yourself too deep in the dark, it can be hard to see that you don't have to stay there.

One more lil thing:

Thanks @Jynx . Logically, I already knew that was all going on but sometimes you just need someone to hit you over the head with the obvious.

Re: New to BPD

Doom scrolling? @Cleo2 Nah... it's not a priority in my life so I just switch off... I think, in my head, it's like "Been there, done that... time to move on".

As for Community Lead, I don't think it makes a difference to how I approach things. I see the forums as my family. I've been on the forums for years now.. just as a regular member like everyone else.

So yeah, I don't see what I do as a 'job'. It's more a privilege and an honour to be part of this space.

As for compassion fatigue, it's not so much an issue because we have an amazing team. When I feel I need to step back, someone else steps in and supports. We also have regular external supports to help us reflect on our practice.

From my point of view, it couldn't be better here 🙂
