Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

most definitely your main concern is about presenting your needs and hearing what they in turn have to offer...alongside with your advocates support...

dot point is a reminder that helps me remember questions to ask...then I add notes...

laugh I think that we are actually saying the same thing ...just different words and in a different style of writing...

no surprise there for me as I write from what my mind is thinking...

@Sophia1 I use dot point lists all the time. But then my notes on them grow and start to look chaotic! I have a folder full of points and notes I made some time ago when I thought I'd be accepted earlier in the journey. So I'm going to read over them and my statement for the hearing that didn't happen and my PHaMs paperwork coz I did a list of goals for them too - and then probably add some more things I've become aware of more recently. Should get off the forums now and get into it, but I'll probably do some art or craft for a while first to clear my mind. Hope today is kind to you xx

Yesterday I spent over 3 hours going through 1 of my 2 files of stuff I've collected re NDIS. Made a full page of dot point goals and the supports that would help to reach them. Good to be making some progress with that. Pre-planning meeting with disability advocate and sil is on Monday week. That's to prepare for the planning meeting with the NDIS. So no rush but I thought I might as well get started on it as I was thinking about it a lot anyway.

NDIS planning meeting is now scheduled for 2 weeks from Monday. This s%&t is getting real!

Guess what everyone?????

I finally received a letter back from the NDIA about my appeal. It said my access request was approved!!! Can you believe it? I phoned my old support worker to let her know and surprise surprise, she was all over me like a rash (because she thinks I am going to go with them as my support provider). She is meeting with me next week to help with the pre-planning for the planning meeting. I am rapt!

I honestly wasn't up for a fight with the NDIA. So if I lost my appeal, I was ready to just go without support and respite no matter how bad things got.

It was the highlight of my day!

Today I started prepping for the planning meeting. Having to justify myself all over again is quite a depressing rehash.
