Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hi @eth, congrats on getting through another hurdle today. Pity it is dragging on a bit longer. Glad that it's only a few weeks away. Sounds like that will be the final answer. I'm amazed at your persistence and courage with this. May all your efforts and the difficulty of the process result in the outcome you are seeking. ox

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@Mazarita @Bunniekins @Appleblossom Once again NDIS picked one sentence out of 4 statements and a report from my psychologist (who is a Dr of psychology) (nearly 30 pages) to hinge their whole argument. And they misinterpret what I know to be the psychologist's intended meaning. She said 'at least a further 12 to 18 months of weekly sessions' could help my 'skills and confidence in managing' my symptoms increase. She did NOT say I would be cured. And medicare only covers 10 sessions a year. I'm only seeing her fortnightly and up to 6 already this year. Also in several places in reports from her and my psychiatrist they have said 'chronic diagnosis', that bipolar cannot be cured, and that sort of thing.

ROAR!!! I was very emotional and agitated sitting through the conference and spoke up a few times. I had a lot of self-doubt about what I'd said afterwards but bro and sil reassured me when we debriefed at the end. I bombed out for a couple of hours. Now I am cranky, to say the least.

Understandable that you might be feeling cranky after today, @eth. Get it out here or on the other thread if you feel like it. Ranting is allowed! Here to listen to whatever you feel like sharing with us. ox

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Not sure what more I can say about it @Mazarita but thanks. Even my solicitor said she was flabbergasted by the other side. And I noticed the AAT case manager said to the NDIS solicitor at the end "I look forward to meeting you at the hearing" - I'm second guessing and reading between the lines on several of the interactions they all had.

@eth People with mental illness are falling through the cracks again.

Wow @eth well done on getting through that and having to listen to all of that. I have a feeling it will get to the hearing, reading between the lines too 🙂 im so frustrated for you and everyone on the NDIS wagon... it should not be this hard and stressful 😞 sigh.

Thanks a lot @Former-Member. Nice to see you. It is going to a hearing.

I found out today that some people have even gone higher, to the Federal Court. Don't think I'll be doing that. Taking it as far as we have is more than I thought I could do already.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Sorry @eth

I worked in a court for a while and had a cheery optimism about them, but from what I have seen recently regarding my son, I am less confident about just outcomes.

I have also listened to many hours of lawyerly conversations around the courts in last 6 months.

Maybe there will need to be some class actions for those with a mental illness to get NDIS.

Fingers crossed at next hearing.

I received a "nice" letter today re my complaint of local ED treatment of my son 6 months ago.

We are going through an endless adjournment process regards his substantive matter ...

Ongoing trials and tribulations....

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @eth for sharing your journey navigating the NDIS with us all. I don't hold out much hope for me because my psychiatrist didn't complete the access request form correctly and didn't even read the support letters from services I use when completing it. I lodge my paperwork and ARF next week. If I lose access to services, I don't know what I am going to do, I really don't. I can guarantee I am going to be more reliant on hospital services, that is a fact. The services I currently utilise keep me stable enough that I don't require hospitalisation, without them, I'm basically screwed.
