Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth I wonder how it is all going? ... Was talking with my pdoc yesterday apparently there are 'key words' that the NDIS are looking for when an application comes through. She didnt tell me these words but it would be interesting to know what they are. I suppose everyone is trying to make sure that it is being used properly but still if you are a newbie or so sick that you cannot help yourself it would make the whole process impossible.

Thinking of you @eth Best of Luck today. Glad that you do have the support of family.

Love that you put the music up and danced.

Thanks for thinking of me @Bunniekins and @Appleblossom

To cut a long story short ....... the NDIS are still saying my conditions aren't permanent, despite previously accepting that they are. Apparently they're allowed to make a whole new assessment as part of this appeal process and change their own ruling. So ...... we are going to have a hearing at which the AAT will have the final say (over NDIS).

@Bunniekins you are right about the NDIS having their own language/terminology that they use and look for in reports and statements submitted. Too much for me to explain here. ' Lifelong and significant' and 'choice and control' and 'capacity building' and 'early interventions' are a few that come to mind. As far as I know there is a guide to their language on their website these days. Or you could find out more from the files in the 'Mental Health and NDIS' fb group.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Can't say (even tho' I know) @Bunniekins as the hearings are publicly listed and it could identify me. Sorry. In a few weeks. Will have to go to the big smoke for it and stay in a mo' with sil the night before coz it's on early. But there'll be more exchanges between the lawyers for both sides between now and then. NDIS's lawyer today just said the same thing over and over again. Totally not negotiable and inflexible.

Sorry its dragging on. @eth Good Luck next stop at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal

I have my own court experiences now and seen how legal adversarial attitudes can complicate things.

@eth Yes they dont want to set a precident because they are a mean bunch of f ckrs.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@Bunniekins @Appleblossom @Mazarita @Queenie @Former-Member and anyone else passing through here - I found out today that only 89 NDIS cases have gone to AAT, most of them withdrew, 29 were completed, only 8 went to a hearing and only 2 of those the applicant won. So it's true, I really am trailblazing.

Doesn't exactly get my hopes up.
