Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Even getting started sounds hellishly confusing! I'm hoping you've got time to rest now, time to stop the head spinning in that particular circle for a little while

Love to you Eth

Thankyou @Former-Member you're a sweetheart.

If the past treatment reports are sought I'm concerned that all my moving around and hospitalizations in 3 different states, and lack of follow up treatment after them, and lack of continued contact with drs and therapists that weren't particularly helpful anyway, and 20+ years of adverse reactions to antidepressants, and not being diagnosed bipolar 1 until age 46 ...etc etc ..... will be a problem one way or another.

You are right, time to stop the head spinning and step away from it all for a while.

Thankyou very much to all who are supporting me here.

@eth, @Former-Member, just back from womens group.

I was glad to read that it was the lawyers who went back and forth, @eth, so that you didn't need to be questioned directly so much, as has previously happened. Also glad to hear you will be trying to give your head a rest from it for a little while. Sending love.

Thankyou very much @Mazarita and @Former-Member

I've rested and briefly napped and been out for a walk with my bro since my last post. But my brain is still pretty wired about it all. I got told by sil this morning that I am 'accretive' so I looked it up :

Accretive | Define Accretive at Dictionary.com

accretion ac·cre·tion (ə-krē'shən) n. Growth or increase in size by gradual external addition, fusion, or inclusion. Increase by addition to the periphery of material of the same nature as that already present, as in the growth of crystals.
She said what she meant was that I am (compulsively) accruing information and details re myself and NDIS requirements - and she's pretty spot on. At this stage I have pages and pages of notes I've made, so much so that I'm swamped by it all and find it quite overwhelming at times.
I'm having lots of anxiety re forgetting to mention something that matters, and also saying things and getting reports that are unhelpful.
Reading this thread must be very disheartening for those I had meant to help by doing it ( @CheerBear @catgirl @Former-Member @Bunniekins I'm sorry) but it does really help me to talk about it all and have some feedback sometimes. I don't really expect much response as by this stage it looks like no-one on the forums has walked this path, but I do really appreciate the kind wishes of those who send them.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

I have an NDIS meeting this coming Wednesday regarding my son. I am trying not to let it stress me out but have little faith in it so far. My son has been part of the NDIS now for nearly a year and nothing has changed for him ... although the centre who has him for day care say they will be able to allocate some money in his direction which will be great ... we shall see ...

I will try and remind myself to post it on your thred @eth if I forget just gie me a reminder 🙂

Having to deal with government departments and long-windedly processes can become overwhelming for a person without mental illness..

Your response is very helpful so certainly no need to apologise...

You have written it as an experience which again is invaluable for someone starting and or going through the process...

I can understand the overwhelming need to note everything...

I too am a note maker..

I have notebooks full of my research on schizophrenia as well as print outs..

perhaps this could be discussed with your advocate..some assistance with any paperwork..moving forward..

Rest and take care
