Am Not Coping

Am Not Coping

I am really not coping at the moment but this is entirely on ME!

This is a message for a few people on here @utopia @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

that I asked could be passed on but it seems that only part of it has been and I understand from the responses that have made it through my emails that I have caused untold distress for some people. I was not going to return because of what I felt I put people through but I especially wanted @utopia and @Former-Member to know that they were not wrong at the time and I was going through a real crisis period. You both held me together for longer than I could myself until the point where my own self-destructive thoughts overwhelmed me.

The entire message that I sent to SANE is below:

I have just viewed the multitude of emails and messages sent from forum members and members of the SANE team – as well as the text and voice message left on my phone.

I have not been able to communicate with anyone since the other night as I have been recovering from what ended up being an unsuccessful attempt to end the pain.

At the time I was in a very distressed state and I did want to stop the pain and all I seemed to achieve is to cause others pain and worry and that is the last thing I wanted to do – I just wanted to end mine and say goodbye to everyone beforehand so my future absence was explained. I should have realised that the message I posted would have concerned some people but I really was not in any state to think about the repercussions for others.

I am so sorry I caused so much distress to others – that is something I will have to hopefully try and live with.

I don’t believe after the concern and anxiety I caused to so many that I will ever be able to return to the forum.

Can someone from the SANE team please explain all this to all those involved and pass on my gratitude for their compassion, concerns and kind words throughout the time I have been part of the ‘forum family’.

Thank you and sorry again for the difficult position I put everyone in.

Zoe7

I do not want any responses from any of you. I just wanted to let you know exactly what has happened and let you know how truly sorry I am for hurting people I have come to think of as friends and family, and who I really care about.

Your support, advice and compassion are what make you all the wonderful people you are.

@utopia and @Former-Member I am so sorry that the trust you placed in me has now been broken because of my actions. I also felt that we had a stronger connection, especially over the last week, and you both helped me in ways I cannot even describe or explain. I was not pulling away from you two - just wanted to pull away from myself. I couldn't cope with my own feelings and no-one or nothing was actually going to be able to stop me at the time. It's now just another failure to add to my list of failures. I really don't know what else to say to you both but to reiterate my heartfelt 'sorry'.

Re: Am Not Coping

I have been trying to tell my mother for years that I am not always going to be the one to pick up the pieces -especially with my sister. She keeps saying that we have to support her in her 'relationship' and my response has always been the same - it is for her to sort out and my mother is completely enabling her by not telling her that her partner's behaviour is not ok. Then I see the other side - when my sister treats him like he is an 'idiot' and is totally controlling. At times I really feel sorry for him because of the way she speaks to him.

Here's the thing @utopia how can I ever move forward with any kind of 'healthy' relationship with my family when I blame them for so much? and I can't get past that!!

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. I don't know if you necessarily have to revisit the past with them. I think you might just be able to start from now. Start ssaying what you think. Say how you feel. Do what you want - not what they want or expect.
Your sister is an adult. Her relationship is hers. You can be there if she ever really needs you - but you don't need to hear 'everything' he does wrong etc. That's their stuff. Not yours. Not your mums.
That's where your psych can help work through the easiest way to do this. How to say what you need - what you won't accept - & keep yourself calm. And eventually happy

Re: Am Not Coping

Maybe the question needs to be - how do I expect to have a better relationship with my family - if I keep saying "I'm okay" & I don't tell them the truth. How much they hurt me.
@Zoe7. My mum appologised to me - once I explained how I really thought about dad and growing up in that household. She now sees how detrimental it has been to large areas of my life. It was hreat hearing her say she was sorry. I don't blame her now. She did what she 'could' do at the time.

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia That's exactly what I have tried to say to my mum over and over again - I do believe that my mum did exactly the same thing with dad - she made excuses and didn't leave him. They are so much alike (mum and sister). There isn't the violence with my sister that there was with my dad but there is the same 'walking on eggshells' feeling around them. The really sad thing is when I spend time alone with her partner we get on really well - and he is so different then.

I have already 'confronted' my dad with what he was like and how it affected me - but any time I have tried to talk to my mother she laughs it off and diverts the conversation. It has just got to the stage over so many years that I haven't bothered trying any more because getting nowhere hurts too much. Now I am stuck in no-man's land - as I don't even think bringing it up anymore will make me feel any better - either way it continues to hurt me.

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. Then maybe you will never get a 'sorry' from your mum - because she did what she knew how to do. Stay. And maybe she doesn't or can't see anything wrong with that decision. Otherwise she will have to look at her own stuff, her own life, her own past & she might not be able to go there.
So. Now what for you?
You learn to say no - when you can. You learn to put up restrictions with wjat you will and won't be responsible for. And you learn to live the life that works for your happiness and contentment.

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia I have said NO a few times over the last few months. I am getting better at saying yes but with 'restrictions' also. Tonight when I was talking to her I told her I couldn't deal with that conversation right now and passed her on to my sister - I wouldn't have done that 6 months ago... and even though I was stressed about it I would have been more stressed if I hadn't stopped talking to her.

It does make it harder working in the same school as her - especially as the principal knows what is going on for me (sort of). I trust the principal to keep it all to herself and everything is going through her and my mum doesn't have to see any of the paperwork etc.

Re: Am Not Coping

I'm proud of you too @Zoe7 - for the way you dealt with that ph call. See there is progress. And she will learn to deal with the 'No' or the 'yes - with restrictions'.
And you didn't let yourself become sick just to keep your mum happy on the ph.
Over time that will become easier to do. Some days they will accept your decision. Some days they won't. But that is their shite - not yours.
You did well today.

Re: Am Not Coping

I did do well today @utopia - considering how I was feeling at the time I am surprised I didn't throw the phone lol

Yeah @Former-Member he was (and still is) adorable - how could you resist that little smiley face

Need to send a message to my @Former-Member... hey little monster...putting on my 'mother' hat here for a minute...

I know how caring and supportive you are - and I am so proud of you for that... and the forum would not be the same without you - but you need to protect yourself sometimes too little one. I know how hard it is to not step in when someone needs help - but you don't need to worry about anything you say. If someone is upset or 'triggered' by what you say - that is not on you- that is not for you to 'deal with'. You need to be able to talk and not worry about what other people may think. This is a really hard one to deal with when someone is as loving and wonderful as you are - but you cannot 'control' or envisage what is going to 'trigger' someone else -and you certainly cannot expect that you can. So keep being who you are but try not to worry about what effect something you write has on someone else - you need to be able to be YOU.
