Welcome and getting started

A parent and a newer diagnosis for family member

A parent and a newer diagnosis for family member

Hello,

A family member was recently was diagnosed with psychosis (suicidal, hospitalization, etc). I am learning to navigate and realize this is a burden to my other family members who do not want to hear about it or think about it. We are in a mess! The suspected diagnosis is Schizoaffective Bipolar Type. I am hoping to learn and to find peers who are willing to chat about it. I am learning that one can be very isolated when being the sole support system for the suffering individual.

Wishing you all the very best,

Biscuit

Hey @Bisquit1

I mainly wanted to welcome you to the forums. I have schizoaffective disorder (as well a couple of other things). Learning to navigate the system is challenging, but good on you for seeking support here on the forums. How do you feel the treatment of your family member is going? Are you looking to get professional support yourself as well? For example, SANE has a guided service - you can check whether you are eligible here: https://www.sane.org/referral

Making you a virtual cuppa...welcome.
