Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx my brain isn’t used to slowing down, so it doesn’t come naturally.

I’ve just been doing regular stuff, like today I had a shower and did skincare and haircare stuff. I washed some clothes. I also watched some TV with my mum and sister. It’s been a chill day. I’m just trying to take it easy.

Have you been up to much today?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer aye big mood. I really gotta force myself sometimes!

Sounds like a sublime chill day!! Not much for me, one of those floaty days where I know I have a million things I ought to do but a) can't remember any of em and b) can't be bothered 😅

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx I’ve had to force myself to take a shower, it doesn’t sound appealing with a fever. I’m no longer shivering at least, though I’m sweating a lot. Probably a combination of heat and my body fighting those microbes. But god, those microbes taste awful when I cough.

I haven’t been able to get anything done today. Nothing seems appealing, I just want to be in bed and do nothing. Even the things I’m supposed to do are on pause. I’m doing what I can for my mental health. I took a PRN before things turned even more rocky. I didn’t even know why I was angry in the morning, I just was

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer Ach monumental effort darlin, well done!! Doing anything when sick is a bloody slog!! Sooooo maybe don't feel too bad if you haven't gotten anything done!!

Maybe you're angry cos you're so sickly and can't do anything except sittin around being ick!! I'd be mad too

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx not being able to do much does make one agitated. So does disrupted sleep. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, it’s hard when intrusive thoughts invade your brain straight after waking up

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer Ach, today can be a bit of a write off then I guess! Watching some comfort shows or anything like that?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx I had some dinner and watched some TV.

Do you think there will come a time when I’m not bombarded with trauma memories first thing in the morning. Getting up is already hard enough when your sick, it seems harder when you feel emotionally paralysed

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer I think so. Or at least, if you do get hit with it still, you'll have gotten so good at managing it that the process will be automatic and you'll barely notice. That's how some stuff is for me these days, like for example my brain will still throw me the most unhinged, degrading, self-flaggelating thoughts sometimes - but now, instead of spiralling, I kinda just say to myself 'Huh? That's silly, no.' and move on. Unconscious competence!! Just takes practice.

I have faith in you!! I reckon it'll be one of those things that gradually gets less overwhelming as you go along and get further in your recovery, rather than something that you need to work on specifically to make it go away... but I dunno, that's your healing journey to walk! Maybe it's worth chatting to your supports about?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx the thoughts are automatic. I can bring it up with my pdoc and psych (when I find one). Though I’m not sure if right now if the best time for therapy, I need to be a bit more functional and get the physical side of things under control.

Maybe it’s very individual. I know some people go to therapy for years, while others for shorter period of time. I don’t want to be continuously in therapy. I’ve accepted that I may need medication long term. Right now I’m trying to figure out my needs. Do you ever express emotions through movement? I think it’s something I want to look into more

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer all the time!! I mean... sorta depends on the emotion I guess, but I frequently use dancing as a form of emotional expression. For example, sometimes if I've been hella stressy, I will dance in a way where I'm visualising the stress as like, a ball of energy in my body, and then the dance movements are sorta...working it out of my body, and flinging it away. Gotta love the power of visualisation!! If the emotion is really big, like anger for example, I will switch to doing something like running or I'll put on heavier music and headbang a bunch haha.

I think yoga could also be a good option to explore too! Did you have any particular kinds of movement in mind?
