Talking through trauma and PTSD

New therapist

New therapist

I started EMDR a while back but ran out of time. And I upset the counsellor once by raising current issues and chronic pain.

I tried to find another therapist who's trauma informed. I found someone local. She's expensive and doesn't process rebates. I've met her once so far. She says she avoids eye contact, doesn't make decisions for people, and when it comes to childhood trauma, she's heard it all before. It feels very off-putting, when I was hoping for help dealing with past and present family dysfunction. I think my upcoming second visit is likely to be my last. I'm disappointed to be wasting precious sessions from my MHCP. I'm socially isolated and finding the experience hurtful. Perhaps I'm just triggered?

Re: New therapist

Thanks @Former-Member . I'm still trying to figure out what Tiger will reliably eat - not much, but gravy and pate more often than other things.

I've given up on finding a therapist for healing. I feel badly let down by the psychologists I met this year. I'll try a social worker as my isolation is becoming unbearable, and a family situation is very worrying.

@Dimity The person plus do you get a connection make so much difference. Couple years ago I decided to try Equine Somatic Therapy, didn’t work for me as I the person that run the one I tried wasn’t the right person. Similar to something you said to me, don’t give up trying completely. Have a talk to your doctor and try some one different

with Tiger, pate is a great option. Challenging thing is finding out what the preferred food is. One senior cat, who has been adopted, liked fish. Manager bought tuna loin which we used part of to give him the meds prior to placing the rest back into the fridge.
annoying part is when serve up fish and cats now want meat. Lol

Re: New therapist

@Jynx @Snowie @Dimity Referral for new psychiatrist done by local doctor. On referral is written, perhaps ADT rotation. Anyone have any insight what the ADT stands for. Might this be connected to my comment about wanting review of my current meds?

I don't know, @Former-Member . Alternative Drug Therapies?

Re: New therapist

Not a clue @Former-Member all google said was 'Active Duty Training' and AFAIK you're not in the military? @Dimity's answer might be closer. Perhaps call the office of the doc and just ask reception to find out for you?

Re: New therapist

Dunno @Jynx @Former-Member Google also said Androgen Deprivation Therapy and Attention Deficit Trait. So yep maybe ask gp what they meant.

I got a new referral myself - to a mental health social worker - who seems to have promptly ghosted me. I've been feeling pretty low about it.

@Dimity ach how frustrating! I totally get the feeling, especially when we amp ourselves up for meeting a new person and all that! Any way to easily suss out what's happened?

Re: New therapist

Yesterday was the last day for this year that my psychologist, plus entire psychology firm that she works for, operated this year. They don’t start back until first Monday in January.

@Dimity wondering if Social Worker that you have been referred to is taking few weeks leave over the Christmas period…. Just a thought.

Re: New therapist

I'll try ringing her Monday @Jynx then give up. I've had no response to my last emails. I think she's gone cold after seeing my gp's letter. I'm blaming myself for being difficult, despicable and being unable to negotiate a simple first appointment.

Re: New therapist

@Former-Member not sure what that stands for.

Hoping that you don't have to wait too long for an appt.
