Busy and rollercoaster emotions

Busy and rollercoaster emotions

Hello all, I have barely touched my computer over the last week. All those replies that I said that I'd write, ... sorry about that. I hope that you can understand and relate to life being really up and down and emotions all aboard the rollercoaster of mood swings.

My new hormone treatment is starting to have full effect and I have been teary and sensitive (more so than usual), although, happily the very depressed mood has nearly gone. I had no idea how much my hormones were making so many things "wrong" with my health. I started to read a book about menopause and I feel like such a newb. I'm also a bit miffed that nobody (doctors) told me any of these things. But thank goodness for public libraries!

I spoke to my shrink last week, not sure whether I mentioned, and now I am back on the full dose of my old antidepressants. My chronic pain is more bearable, not perfect, but it never will be. I have been walking most days, and somehow missed the rainy patches. All those lovely endorphins! I feel so much better that I am free to go out when and where I want to. "Want to", includes choosing to avoid overwhelming situations and places. Exposure therapy only just starting. Just walking out the front door is fantastic. Such a revelation! I don't even need to go somewhere, maybe the letterbox, and the benefits of stepping outside of the house. Freedom!

It's not a magic cure, but it might help to change things even briefly.

Any moments of joy are worth it, aren't they?

I'm working on joining a day programme for people with all kinds of disabilities. My social anxiety etc, makes the concept very scary, but I know that loneliness is a weight that is dragging me down. Mixed feelings!

Got to motor, but I hope that everybody is warm enough and can grab some rays 🌞 for a little bit, and that you have moments of joy, no matter how small.

Take care

Hi @Katz42

Nice to meet you, you seem to have a lot going on there. One thing that stood out for me is that you are thinking of joining a day programme, that to me is the best, you get out n about, ye meet new people, it might be scary but ever wonder that these same new people are probably scared as well.

The other thing I picked up on is to ask as many questions as you can think of in regards to treatments and meds. No question is a silly question, its all about being fully aware of what you are getting into.

Glad your meds are working and the pain is more bearable.

Geez its soo cold outside, you take care of yourself........Asgard

Hi @Katz42 I wanted to say, I could relate to everything you wrote, regarding the social anxiety.

It sounds like a dream come true to be able to step outside my front door.

Without all the horrible anxietys feelings.

Well done, beautiful post. Sorry I cannot reply in more detail, I am suffering dep/anx quite badly this week.

I am in late 40's, I forgot that maybe my hormones are very likely contributing.

Thankyou for sharing.

PS I am curious about the exposure therapy. The name is a basic concept. You continue to take small steps, and, have an awareness of the fear -& eventually, it is not scary anymore. This is correct? I can Google, I thought only if you are interested in sharing more of what it involves.

There is a program on Freeview extreme food phobias. I am not sure what the therapy is, they show person getting hypnotised. I am not sure if this is therapy I am comfortable with. Otherwise, I would do it in a heartbeat. My brain tells me, it is too good to be true.

At the end of program, zero food phobia. It is extraordinary. I wonder if hypnosis is like a band-aid & in a year or so, the phobia returns. I hope I'm making sense.

Best to you. Keep going 😎🥳

Re: Busy and rollercoaster emotions

Hello @Katz42

Firstly, congratulations on getting out again! Getting answers and getting some relief from pain is amazing! Being able to choose where you walk to, for NO REASON AT ALL! 🩷😃 Yes👍

I can also relate to the hormone side of things. I wish there was more information around! The ups and downs are just blah. So glad to hear that you are making progress. Can you recommend a good book?

Yes, those moments of joy are yours! Lovingly, greedily, preciously drink them up, write them down, hold them close, tend them and concoct them, if you can. One of my friends had a jar and every time something good happened, she wrote it down on a little slip of paper, so she could take them out to read if needed, and also for the end of the year, when she would start again. I love that, lol.

I hope that each day you make it out the door, there's a bit more freedom, a bit more colour, and that those anxious flutters turns to excitement as you realise that the world is full of sunshine, and that there are so many people who have been waiting to meet another person just like yourself 🙂
