New season, new goals, reset and new commitment to self care...

New season, new goals, reset and new commitment to self care...

What a week this has been 😞

Not sure where to start here, after being absent for a while, I checked in a month or so ago to report that everything was our version of steady. My period of not checking in was purely a lack of capacity after returning to full time employment while still in a caring role. Operating at above 100% capacity. Primarily supporting my Darling who lives with BPD, (Seeking support for my Darling is how I found the forums) , S1 with an intellectual disability, S3 with ASD and FIL.

Well, last week the status has changed again with the passing of my father-in-law,

It has occurred to me that for the past couple of years our lives have revolved around Dad,

And I am ok with that, he is totally worthy of that. He has been a significant support over many years to our family.

The point of this is that I now need to be intentional in how I fill that void, I need to stay glued for my family to function. Darling now more than ever needs my support to adjust to life without her Dad.

And my children who adored their grandad.

Thinking about some goals for self care and interested in other peoples strategies.

It has occurred to me that I perhaps have not been looking after myself as well as I should have despite convincing myself I am ok.

I have been added to a waiting list for a grief and loss course through carer gateway.
I received an email seeking expressions of interest the morning after Dad passed.

This will be a good start.

Things that I want to achieve included

- Better diet

- More consistent exercise (Cycling)

- Time out with Darling, return to our motorcycle adventures that ceased when Dad went into care.

- Complete an NDIS review for S1 to get supports for independent living so I can relinquish some micro managing to better qualified people.

- Some self paced study.

- Gardening and home maintenance. Have big plans for the garden that is in a state of disrepair.

- Generally being more chilled and present for my family.

Awww. @Shaz51 . He'll find it. He'll get there. Nature takes its own shape and form. It may be right there before him but just look slightly different.

Hugs to you both.

Found out this morning that I missed out on a job I applied for and had an interview for.

I am disappointed but darling is finding it hard. She is not ok right now so possibly it is for the best that I have more time available. Job = financial security = reduced stress and anxiety. But there is more going on than just that. Need to patiently wait for her to open up with some gentle encouragement.

We will be ok though. We will manage. Just need to manage Darlings stress.

This weekend marked the 12 month anniversary of FIL passing. A few emotions floating around at the moment. Day before there was news of a family member close to Dad passing.

The last 12 months has been a bit of a ride. Self care commitments on page one of this thread kind of went out the window.

In the past 12 months milestones that would have excited Dad greatly.

2 children finished with school and working.

S2 son has his license and moved out of home. S1 has purchased his own car.

Dad loved his grand children and would have been celebrating with them.

Just wanted to say

Love you Dad

Miss you Dad

And every moment caring for you was totally worth it.

Re: New season, new goals, reset and new commitment to self care...

As mentioned earlier I quit my job in protest earlier this year and returned to a caring role for darling who was on the verge of another breakdown. Me running downing and becoming stressed and unwell with work was making this worse. Things have settled since being more available. I was starting to increase workload across multiple part time casual jobs. But as the fatigue was creeping in again darling has indicated she needs me more than money so dialing back on that front. Need to limit the to 3 day per week.

Part of self care.

So going to to try revisit page on goals.

@Faith-and-Hope

How are you both?

I miss the check ins we used to have and feel out of touch with everything.

Life is ok here but generally spent and lacking in mental capacity to engage with much.

Trying to complete an accreditation certification at the moment. This is highlighting how limited my mental capacity is.

Re: New season, new goals, reset and new commitment to self care...

Life has been really full-on here @Determined so I haven’t been around the forums much myself. My Dad has needed surgeries and D2 has been really sick. Then there are assignments for uni, travel between my family members, and so on. I ran out of stuffing a while back, so taking the critical path through all my commitments.

Thinking of you and other forumites a lot, whether I am here or not though …::
