Hey @CkcmkC ,

Welcome to the forums!

As I read your post, I can say with certainty that you are not alone.

The loudness overwhelm of the world can seem just too much. I hear it's like you just want to shut the loudness out.

@ArraDreaming may be able to share his experiences and give you some hinters.

Out of curiosity, did you want to stop the meds? (No need to respond if you don't feel comfortable)

Re: ADHD

I had no intention of stopping them, they were working really well. But that psychiatrist retired and I haven't been prescribed any since.

Re: ADHD

If you were on a steady dose, did you know you can ask a GP to prescribe them as long as they have or is willing to apply for a licence to prescribe them @CkcmkC ?

Re: ADHD

Hey @CkcmkC I am unmedicated for ADHD, been diagnosed for about 15 years but had symptoms my whole life
I am thinking about meds as possibility for me
Dude I really feel you when you say the world is too loud I have these moments where it is all just too much I feel like hiding in a dark room away from people sounds and feelings for a good 5 mins or so just to stop myself from getting angry
It is a complete feeling of sensory overwhelm do you get that?

Thanks for the tag @tyme local legend

Re: ADHD

@tyme@CkcmkC
I take myself away where I can, if I’m at work I go to my car if I’m at home I go to my garage even just for a few mins I don’t do anything in particular like deep breathing or things like that I just find I need to be away from it( that’s the key, I have a little signal I let my Mrs know if I need a few mins and it’s just a little slip of paper on the bench that means I need to tap out for a few mins it is getting too much for me, and I am left alone until I have had some mental space and physical space and if I can’t be away from it I put my headphones on sometimes even without music
I go for a walk if I can or kick a bin
I am trying to get better at verbalising the ‘need a few mins’ that’s my next goal cause right now I have my little bit of paper and if I don’t get that out in time and I try to verbalise something it comes out really harsh and sometimes quite rude or in a fluster/short. So I am trying to work on that.
So I am working on that

Hi @CkcmkC

The more I hear stories like yours the madder I get (bad English I know) with our mental health system. Your meds were working fine and just because your pysch dies you are forced off them purely for the lack of a prescription. There is something wrong there, can you not just get your notes transfered to a new pysch and for them to re-prescribe, Sorry if I seem naive about this whole thing.

Can I also say a thank you to @ArraDreaming for explaining to those of us who don't have ADHD about how you deal with it, it certainly gave me an insight into how people with ADHD deal with the noise they experience.

And @tyme thank you as ever for you being you, learn from you everyday

@CkcmkC I can’t function without my medication.
