Destiny

Destiny

Hi @tyme ,

I would like to know more about destiny. I hadn’t really been in tune with my feelings, but when you mentioned about destiny things became came clear in my mind and my focus on the positive improved a lot. The one thing I wanted to ask was what if the destiny I am focussed on isn’t the same for her and she has other ideas. Were we really on the same page? I thought so, but then thought we weren’t. Is it ok to put all my heart into an outcome that I don’t know would be the same for her?

Re: Destiny

Hey @Rockdog ,

What are you doing now for work? Did you manage to get anything aligned with your studies?

Re: Destiny

Hi @tyme,

nope just still stacking boxes. I don’t think nothing will work out with law. I really don’t know what I was thinking with that anyway.

Hey @Rockdog @tyme @rav3n

How are you all. It has been a little while since I have posted here but I have been reading along with yours. I hope you are all doing ok. It sounds as though you have been struggling a little @Rockdog ? Did you graduate yet? I am due to graduate my little cert IV course in December but sometimes I doubt that I will make it. I keep getting really anxious about role plays and in class assessments. I really just need to take those one at a time and just get through them. Did you find your studies challenging to keep doing or did you just take it a little at a time? I tend to look too far ahead and get overwhelmed. I have been doing really well in my course though and would say that I am at the top of my class somewhere.

Re: Destiny

What about support work or peer work? @Rockdog How did the work with the homelessness service go?

@Rockdog

I think you would be great at Peer Work. It's a proper profession these days. You can do it with or without doing the course. There are many people working in Peer Work who have not done the associated study. Sometimes, if you are lucky, your workplace will arrange for you to do the course.

I think most of the moderators here have done or are doing the course if you ever want to discuss it with anyone. I got help from @tyme with my application to secure a scholarship to do the cert IV Peer Work course this year. It is challenging because of all the assessments but it isn't what I would call hard.

Re: Destiny

I got a scholarship to do mine too @Oaktree @Rockdog . I had two scholarships to choose from. One paid me to study and the other one didn't. I chose the one that didn't because the times were more suitable.

I think the hardest part of the course was the role plays which are mandatory.

I have a friend who is studying the Peer Work course in another state and they are doing it online. So there are options about how you choose to study. Do whatever you think would work best for you. The main thing to check is that they are a proper RTO. I am doing mine through Tafe with the backing of the Western Australian Government.

Re: Destiny

Oh yes.. mine was done fully online @Oaktree @Rockdog

Oh, and that was another reason why I chose the unpaid scholarship over the paid...

Re: Destiny

@Oaktree @Rockdog in my other peer work roles, i've had co-workers who never studied peer work get the role (it was an online job)! they did have experience in supporting people with mental health and/or supporting others in other capacities (i.e. lived experience, carers, or even teaching/tutoring types of roles, etc).

actually one of my co-workers (who went from online peer support worker to manager of the online peer community) was studying law when he joined the peer work world! he had to do a short training course before he got to the manager stage though, but i think the company paid for it.

@rav3n

That’s pretty interesting. I think because peer is a fairly new profession that not enough people have competed the training. The trail blazers were doing peer work before there was a course to do.
