Time away from forums

Time away from forums

Hi all

I’ll be spending some time away from the forums since I’m not doing so good, no safety concerns, but I think I’m just simply too much for everyone here on the forums. My emotions are too much. May brain is too much. I don’t want to drown people in my pain, everyone is better off with me off the forums. I hope our paths cross again. Will say goodbye and wish you all the best. Sorry for being a pain

Re: Time away from forums

@Jynx I’ve actually looked at possibly working at SANE as an option, but they do require some experience in a similar role first, so maybe someday. I feel like the combination of in person and WFH suits me. It is true it’s very organisation based. My supervisor has said she finds social workers often tend to have a history of their own trauma. I know my supervisor does, and she recognised I had my own experiences before I even said anything. I guess it’s body language, being hypervilgant is a trauma response. Today was okay, the guy on the bus on the way back was so loud, probably drunk, enough to give one sensory overload.

Hi @Snowie I hope today was a good day for you 💖. It had been rather cold and wet lately

Morning @creative_writer

I think a lived experience in this field does help.

Wishing you a good day today.

Definitely keep an eye out for opportunities with SANE @creative_writer - like the Peer Guide Program (though I believe that's finishing up soon) for example! We can keep an ear out for ya 😉

And like yeah, sometimes it's apparent to others, but in my experience that's usually because it's recognised by someone who also has a trauma history, who would not judge us for it anyway - just like your supervisor said.

Ach, yuck, never fun to be around overly intoxicated people. I hope you were able to have a very chill evening afterwards!

Re: Time away from forums

Hi lovely @Snowie, I hope you are doing well today 💖

@Jynx I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out. I’ll be applying for different jobs later this year. Graduation isn’t far.

I’ve met a number of therapists over my life, not all recognise these subtle things as much. Trauma can make one empathetic for sure, it’s only adaptive to read other people’s body language after trauma. I even analyse my psych and pdoc.

I would’ve thought that sort of behaviour was not acceptable on public transport, but bus driver didn’t do anything. I wanted to tell the guy to be quiet but I was worried about my safety if I did say something

Re: Time away from forums

@creative_writer just around the corner hey! What a milestone! Do you have an official date for your graduation?

For sure, and it could even act as a filter too, like if your therapist isn't able to attune to or even understand social hypervigilance then maybe they're not a good fit, ya know?

Ugh yeah that's not ok, especially if he was being a menace!

Re: Time away from forums

@Jynx I don’t have an official date yet.

I know my current psych recognises subtle changes, but I don’t feel like she understands on a deeper level. It’s not that she’s a bad therapist, she’s not.

His behaviour was chaotic, made me feel kind of unsafe. Probably my hypervilgiance kicking in. He said a lot of shit, it was disgusting. Hence I kept a distance and did not speak to him

Re: Time away from forums

@creative_writer well keep us posted when you do, if you like! Definitely something worthy of celebration 😊

Do you think you could benefit from working with someone who does understand on that deeper level? Can always try out working with other therapists and if they don't fit, you can stay with your current one.

Yeh for sure, I'm glad you kept your distance. These things can definitely rattle us!

I'm off soon, so I'll bid you adieu!! Hope the rest of your week goes smooth darlin 💜
