You're Invited - Live Online Event in the Yarning Space, 27th May (Have your say!)

You're Invited - Live Online Event in the Yarning Space, 27th May (Have your say!)

Hello,

Thank you for joining the "Yarning Space" subforum! It’s deadly to have you involved.

I am an Aboriginal man from Yuin Country, employed at SANE as the Social Emotional Wellbeing Manager (SEWB), my role is to embed a Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Framework into SANE’s programs and services which includes the forums, and the new Yarning Space currently being trialed and co-designed.

We would like to invite you to a special live event to provide us with some feedback about the yarning space and start the process of co-designing the future look and feel of the space as it's important that we know what’s important to you. The event will be a live online group discussion led by SANE and co-hosted by @ArraDreaming. Participants that join the event and contribute will be compensated for their time.

When: Monday 27th May 7:00pm to 8:30pm AEST

How to participate? Simply login at 7:00pm and join the live conversation by replying to some questions. Questions will be posted during this time, so you and others can respond and provide feedback.

We would love to get some feedback from you about:

  • How easy it is to sign up
  • How easy it is to find the space after you have signed up
  • How easy is it to post
  • Whether we keep the space invitation only but make it visible on the SANE Forums page.
  • What does SEWB mean to you and how can we make the space culturally safe, responsive to your needs, and unique compared to the other Forums?
  • What content would you like to see
  • What design would you like to see
  • Other suggestions/feedback

What is co-design? “Co-design” refers to a participatory approach to designing solutions, in which community members are treated as equal collaborators in the design process.

Hope you all can make it!

I am not sure that there is a benefit as it kind of segregates us and others. Although I can see there might be some cultural pro's. I am here keeping an open mind and having a wait and see approach.

Great response, we have thought about this recently and the yarning space, or any sub-forum isn't meant to replace the main SANE Forum as this has great social supports and information. However, to meet cultural needs, this space does need co-designing on how we do that.

Next Question:

What do you like most and least like about the Yarning Space/forum?

@SouthsNo1 I have an answer to this but I am keeping it to myself. @tyme is aware of my feelings

What do you like most and least like about the Yarning Space/forum?

I like that is closed, this provides an opportunity have discussions you otherwise might not feel comfortable having in a big audience online.
It provides an opportunity to discuss things that maybe with the rest of the platform feels unsafe to do so, for example unfortunately last year with the referendum, discussing the outcome of that was painful and many of us needed mob around us to support but also felt like we could not speak up too loudly about it.

It also brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences from all areas of this country, if you have an issue someone here might understand it too

Hey, yeah. One of the questions was about social & emotional well-being.

While it's great acknowledging the positives like bring on county:

* our health & well bring are linked to STRUCTURAL inequalities eg poverty, lack of connection, family violence, criminal justice involvement, overpricing etc. Intergenerational trauma plays a huge role in my mental health issues.
* being able to get real about this stuff is validating

Great response, I think this is important and SANE would like to support these yarns and use the themes to either to advocate to find resources or develop content around these such as videos or podcast discussions so that our content here is relevant for members

Hey @Oaktree ,

Absolutely! Thank you for your openness.

It would be great to see more people connect to the Yarning Space so there can be some great culturally-safe discussions in this space.

The purpose is to grow this space, and hence this co-design is to give us some direction before it moves into the space of being open to more people.

Yes it would have been wonderful to have this space on Australia Day/Invasion Day. I raised the fact that I didn't think it was a day for celebration on my own social media and got run over by the responses. I left a group over it.

Our Next Question for tonight:

What does a culturally safe space mean to you? How can we make the space culturally safe and unique to other forums?

I haven’t really used it. I have had a look around. So I’m not sure what I think just yet.

Hey @Oaktree no pressure to share but if there’s something on your mind about this place now is a great place for it so go ahead no judgement here 🙂
