Hello and welcome @NightFury

It is so good having things planned for the new school term

Wow, quite the range @NightFury !

Best parts of teaching?

Worst parts of teaching?

Re: Welcome to the Educators' Cafe - Introduce Yourself Here

Welcome, @NightFury !

And hello @Shaz51 @tyme @BPDSurvivor and everyone else!

My psychiatrist has given me the all clear to return to work on reduced hours from next Tuesday. It has been a long time coming.

I'm a secondary teacher. I've taught English, Chinese and Humanities.

We'll see what my allotment looks like next week.

I've been trying to balance a sleep-wake routine conducive to work, as well as resting for what will be a busy term (when is it ever not a busy term?)

@tyme Best part of Teaching?

I'm in the process of falling in love with it again and the best parts are the little moments you have with the kids - those moments where you're just being your authentic self and having a laugh and a joke, and they're being their authentic selves in return.

The worst parts...

I have experienced some of the worst parts - not feeling safe in my job, losing students to suicide, the lack of support and the super high expectations.

Woohoo @Spirit_Healer ! So so great to hear the good news!

Are you still going to be doing intervention or will they ask you to cover classes?

Please please look after yourself when you return. I hope they treat you respectfully and kindly. So you have any hesitations about going back? Feel free to use this space to air it if you think it'll help.

@NightFury , thank you for sharing. I'm thinking that most teachers can relate to seeing kids' faces light up when they 'get' something. I hope things fall into place so that you can do something you love.

As for the worst parts, you're not alone. I read about some of the atrocities teachers face, especially principals.

You also, please take care when you return. But in the meantime, enjoy your holz!

Re: Welcome to the Educators' Cafe - Introduce Yourself Here

@tyme the last I heard was that I'll be doing Literacy Intervention. I'll find out for sure next week.

Besides the last challenge I mentioned elsewhere about getting medical clearance,

I haven't had hesitancy about returning...I guess I'm just relieved to get back to normality and being paid again. Running out of paid sick leave is not fun!

And of course, feeling like a useful person, contributing to society, too.

Also, I've really missed the social interaction that being a teacher provides.

@NightFury , I also love the connection that can be built with students in the classroom. I like to joke around respectfully, it lightens the mood and also keeps students' interest.

Enjoy the Easter weekend while it lasts, everyone!

So true @Spirit_Healer .

You are so brave. After being away from a workplace for so long, I'd be afraid to go back.

It sounds like you have very supportive staff there.

Fingers crossed it all goes well for you!

Re: Welcome to the Educators' Cafe - Introduce Yourself Here

Hey hey @Shaz51

Thank you for asking. If I answer honestly, I'm really struggling...if I answer with my teaching hat on...I'm great, everything's under control and it's all good.

Does anyone else feel that pressure and the expectation to have it all under control at work, even when you know that deep down, it's actually not?
