Hey there @tyme

thanks for the invite 🙂

hi @Snowie @BPDSurvivor @Zoe7 @purplesneakers

nice to meet you all.

I worked as a TAFE teacher (anatomy and physiology mostly), as well as all types of labs at universities, mostly teaching students with physical and cognitive differences who had previously been unsuccessful in passing their units (I used to use a variety of novel teaching with very flexible delivery - a bit of a maverick who would disregard the conventional approaches if they didn’t suit my students’ needs…not always appreciated by the other staff, but their discomfort with alternate delivery producing successes was not my priority 😉.. my goal was 100% about my students, and working within the system to facilitate equity in learning).
I’ve also taught in other places and other skills, more related to security.
amongst all the jobs I’ve had, teaching was up there with the most rewarding for the effort.

nice to be here.. hope you’re all having a good week so far.

Re: Welcome to the Educators' Cafe - Introduce Yourself Here

Hello everyone, I'm happy to have just discovered this thread and hub!

I'm a secondary teacher, been teaching mainly English and also some Chinese the last few years. I've moved around a number of schools, mostly in the government system, some more academic and others low SES, such as where I am now.

Happy to have survived parent teacher interviews tonight and looking forward to the school holidays at the end of this week!

Re: Welcome to the Educators' Cafe - Introduce Yourself Here

@Shaz51 I was hoping to be more active in the forums, but teacher life has been too busy! It was hectic three weeks ago when my two year ten classes and one year eleven class all had their assessment essays submitted for marking at the same time! Been winding down a bit since then, but at the end of this week I'll have two more year seven assessments and also practice assessments for year ten to mark over the holidays as well. At least one of the year seven ones is a group poster, so that should be less to do!

Today's interviews were the big hurdle to pass for the week, glad it's over.

Hi, thank you for the welcome. Im a very tired educator - school holidays coming up soonish. I mostly work with teachers to build support for students with disabilities and/or additional needs. It is really rewarding and challenging, sometimes its tricky on the trapeze of balancing everyone's needs. Educators have a particular set of challenges and experience a lot of burnout, i think this hub is a great idea.

@Millieme I’m so excited to read your post! That’s my area too - working with teachers to make adjustments for those with disability and additional needs.

My holidays start soon! Tomorrow is my last day so it’s a short day then two wks break.

I teach mainly high school at the moment but because of my role, I’m work with kinders to support transition to school next year. We had a transition day today. It was a tough one. 3 students in the one group who are non-verbal, not yet toilet trained and have high needs.

We’ve had 9 transition groups come through so far.

Joys of teaching eh? @Millieme @Spirit_Healer And others
