Studying and being ND

Studying and being ND

Hi

I have an ASD diagnosis, but also have some ADHD symptoms (no diagnosis at this stage), I need to discuss my attention issues with my psych during my next appointment. I struggle a lot with concentration and remaining still for long periods of time, I stim a lot. I know relaxing music, relaxation exercises, prayer and good old matcha help me concentrate and feel calmer. Does anyone else have any other tips on studying?

@creative_writer yeah deffo been something I've had to keep an eye on, especially when I'm dysregulated.

Yep, very confusing thing! Bodies are weird, no doubt. I hope they pass swiftly hun 🤞

@Jynx I’ve found keeping an eye on spendings is something I need to be cautious about. I bought eyeshadows recently in another order. I probably didn’t need them, but they looked so good and weren’t too expensive, but I know it all adds up.

Still waiting for it to pass. I do find myself more dysregulated later in the day than earlier

@creative_writer yeah can be tough to find a balance, especially when it is also very legit to want to treat oneself! So I hope the eyeshadows end up being a nice treat when they arrive!

Mm perhaps later in the day is when your capacity is lower? Like if you've been gradually more overstimulated as the day goes on? I also think it's pretty common to feel lower in the evening - the day and its tasks are over and we can be left alone with our thoughts, which can lead to further dysregulation too. It really sucks sometimes ay.

Today I had to sit almost non stop for 6 hours in a training session, I only got up twice for our breaks, I couldnt handle it my body was so full of everything that even sitting on the train home made me want to hit something, all that pent up energy from not being able to move around

@ArraDreaming I totally feel that! The internal restlessness is so intense, feels like it wants to explode outta me.

Is this a work thing? Could you chat to them about your need for regular breaks/allow you to get up to stretch and move around more frequently?

Having a stim or fidget toy also helps me to stay seated sometimes.

Re: Studying and being ND

it was one off mass introduction and training session for my workplace @Jynx I have to go again tomorrow, had to travel to there head office and sit in a room with about 15 other people all day, bought me back to being at tafe I hated those days it’s a healthcare place so a lot of the content wasn’t even relevant to me, @Jynx I hope it’s not as bad tomorrow but I think it will be

I can’t do that I just felt my legs wanting to move and my body just wanted to get up all day that’s all I could think about it and the group activities I had nothing to contribute because I couldn’t think

Re: Studying and being ND

So it's not particularly relevant to you and is causing you a lot of disruption - I reckon skipping it is deffo worth considering @ArraDreaming. Is it compulsory, or something you'd end up having to complete still at a later date?
