D.I.D....

D.I.D....

Wanting to know if there's anyone else in this group caring for someone with D.I.D.?

We've got a family member with a very "crowded" internal world of multiple personalities. This goes along with compulsive behaviours, phobias, social anxiety, derealisation and other difficulties. The person in question sees medical and psychological practitioners regularly; it's a disorder that apparently doesn't respond to medication, and they have previously reacted badly to medications that have been trialled; I'm seeing a psychologist regularly myself to deal with the pressure and get some feedback/backup. I have a supportive husband and family, but otherwise it's hard to know how to or who to talk with about what's going on. It's an uncommon enough disorder that you have to explain an awful lot about it before a conversation can even really start, and then you run into dangerous ground regarding the privacy of the person in question.

Trip to see Hubby's parents went smoothly. Straight from our place to theirs with no stops on the way down, and got back to our regional "big town" before stopping on the way home. And that was only because we needed to buy dinner and some groceries. Glad we did it. His Mum in particular is getting frail.

@Determined, all our travels tend to be within state boundaries. Now that the metro area is on "stay at home" a trip down there would be unadvisable, but would still be do-able if absolutely necessary. If we needed to go to my parents' place, we'd be going from a region with no cases to one with very few, so unless they bring back statewide " stay home" rules, we're OK. But we're happy enough to spend as much time as possible at home. The fewer chances this visus gets to hitchhike, the better.

Found out after the trip that Older Daughter's surgical procedure is likely to happen in the next week or two. She'll want company before and after, I rang the hospital, and they're currently unfussed by our flying metro visit, but the time I can be there is likely to be limited... maybe only "after" or something, and fully suited up. Hoping that remains the case.

Ta @Former-Member.

Older Daughter's surgical procedure was going to happen last week, but has been delayed by a cold and subesquent coronavirus test. Test all clear, and she's seen a doctor today who has given his "all clear" to the hospital, so hopefully it'll be next week.

Since the hospital doesn't want any surplus people around at the moment, our responsibility is going to be limited to drop off and pick up. They've planned on keeping her in overnight, so she won't need a "competent adult supervisor" on discharge.

Surgery went ahead as planned yesterday, and all went well. There will be a bit of healing up time needed. She sounded reasonably good when she phoned yesterday afternoon, not sure how long they'll keep her in yet.

And after the 8:30 drop off, we did some shopping and then had a cuppa with our church minister. He's reasonably "new" to our church, so has been encouraging people to make cuppa catch up times as a way of getting to know each other better. He's previously worked as a nurse, so is a well-informed person when it comes to our Older Daughter's ups and downs.

Was nice having a cuppa out for the first time in months. Full hand sanitiser/conact details/social distancing in place, but nice anyway.

Ta @Former-Member. 🙂

Not too bad here. Older Daughter has had some health hiccups/hospital presentations since her surgery. Problem of it being impossible to know if they're genuine or "unconsciously manufactured". She rang us last night with a list of symptoms and online advice to get medical attention... only attention available at that time of night is hospital emergency, if she went in there, they would have done a COVID test, which would mean she couldn't get a taxi and therefore would have no way to get home, and they don't want people sitting around the waiting room if they're "possible positives".... so we advised her to see how she went and maybe hold off until morning. Haven't heard yet what happened, I presume she didn't go in, Hubby is currently transporting her to a pre-arranged swab test, needed before her new carer can attend her home... so I guess I'll find out when he gets home.

Am a bit concerned that the carer who has been assigned to her is very young. Not yet 20. That means very "early career". This mostly concerns me because our beloved daughter can be very challenging and confronting. I hope the lady in question has very good senior back-up, and that she doesn't get scared away from being a carer. SH/SAs are fairly inherrently confronting. (The run of "good weeks" is still continuing in that regard, so the longer that remains the case, the better.)

Day One of the second round of learning at home for Younger Daughter. Am hoping that she's starting from a better base level state of mind this time and will get enough of the work completed. Last time almost nothing happened schoolwork-wise, but the time out really did help her into a better position emotionally. So I sort of don't regret it...but it means it might be a struggle getting her passed into Yr. 11.

Ummm... well stocked food-wise for staying at home, due to an ongoing several weeks' worth pantry. Which is what I've done for years anyway. ("Farmers' Pantry". 😛 ) Hoping to do a trip tomorrow to get animal food and cement for Younger Daughter's "teenage cubby" project- and bonus, she took my suggestion of asking her design/woodwork teacher if that could count as an assessment task, and he said yes. So as long as she documents what she's doing, some of her at home work will be doing something she really wants to do.

Mum and Dad's aged care home is still safe and sound, in a "low case count" region but nevertheless, they've run ahead of the official recommendations and closed to visitors as soon as things started escalating elsewhere.

I'm a bit up and down myself, but trying to ward off the "downs" by getting out into the garden, even if I'm not quite in the mood... because eventually, it works. As well as achieving something out there, it's me-time, when I can think, pray, whatever.
