D.I.D....

D.I.D....

Wanting to know if there's anyone else in this group caring for someone with D.I.D.?

We've got a family member with a very "crowded" internal world of multiple personalities. This goes along with compulsive behaviours, phobias, social anxiety, derealisation and other difficulties. The person in question sees medical and psychological practitioners regularly; it's a disorder that apparently doesn't respond to medication, and they have previously reacted badly to medications that have been trialled; I'm seeing a psychologist regularly myself to deal with the pressure and get some feedback/backup. I have a supportive husband and family, but otherwise it's hard to know how to or who to talk with about what's going on. It's an uncommon enough disorder that you have to explain an awful lot about it before a conversation can even really start, and then you run into dangerous ground regarding the privacy of the person in question.

@Determined, not at present I'm afraid.

She was transferred out of the private clinic last night (after consultation with us) because the staff and her psychiatrist were not confident that they could keep her safe. Spent the night in a city emergency ward under watch, and has now been transferred to the local mental health unit as an involuntary patient. That needs to be reviewed by the local psych team within 24 hours of her admission there, so we'll find out sometime soon how extensive that's likely to be.

We're mostly feeling resigned. We've run out of ways to keep her safe, but someone else is currently keeping her safe whether she wants them to or not. Unsure what would be best for her. She's feeling trapped, but is highly likely to SH or worse if she's discharged. For her own protection, a compusory admission may be the only workable option. We'll see what comes.

Hubby and I are still a bit under the weather too, but heading towards recovery, so we should be able to manage visits in to the local unit if that's how it eventuates.

Older Daughter arrived at the local hospital via ambulance midday-ish. Local psychiatrist assessed her and sent her home, where she pretty much immediately SH with SI. She's been taken back there via another ambulance to get repaired and reassessed. They're now trying to send her home again. We're heading in to the hospital to strongly protest. Dunno how that will pan out.

Thanks all.

She's got an admission. Local MHS don't do therapeutic admissions, just short term crisis management stays. We left her a bit before 10:00.
We politely but very bluntly pointed out that we nearly lost her today due to serious systemic problems. Along with some other blunt points. There will be a review assessment tomorrow that we'll hopefully get to. So we need to get some sleep and try not to upset our virus-recovery process too much.
Emotions... are kind of flat. Which may be a small mercy, unless they come back to bite hard later. It's odd though when you walk into the emergency waiting room and realise you're looking a bit wistfully at the people who've got a straightforward physical injury that they should be fully recovered from within a week. Psychiatric injuries are slower and more complex to maybe-heal.
